Democrat Maryland Governor Candidate Suggests Ban on Shotguns

Ben Jelous

The Democrat governor candidate in Maryland for 2018 has implied the state's extreme gun laws do not go far enough. On MSNBC, he said the following:

“We will, in the next [Maryland state] legislative session, have to have a real conversation about how we finish the job here of our assault weapons ban. But we have to go much further. Journalists were killed with a shotgun.”
Here is the video on Youtube, from the Finkelblog:

The active shooter in the Capital Gazzette shooting used a shotgun. Shotguns are extremely popular in the United States. Cartridge shotguns have been actively produced for 150 years. Shotguns make up about 1/3 of the private firearms stock. There are over 100 million shotguns in private hands in the country.

What is Ben Jelous attempting to accomplish with this message?

A recent poll found that Maryland voters are evenly split on who to trust on gun control. From wbalt.com:
Kromer oversaw the survey of 617 Marylanders, who were asked, "Who do you have more confidence in to handle the issue of gun violence? The Republican governor? Or the Democrats?" The answer was a statistically equal split of 39 percent favoring Gov. Larry Hogan and 40 percent favoring the Democrats.
 Maryland Goucher poll

The message of banning shotguns does not strike me as something that will bring Democrat voters to the voting booth. It is well designed to energize Second Amendment supporters.

Ben Jelous does not seem well versed in the intricacies of firearm nomenclature and technology. If he attempts to finesse this gaff, he is likely to make it worse.

This is a common problem for people who are ignorant about guns, and who made the choice to be unarmed. They see no value in firearms. They see no cost to disarming others, because it does not cost *them* anything.

Those who have made the choice to be armed, are not willingly and easily disarmed.

I’m in favor of Maryland banning the ownership of shotguns. I could use a cheap shotgun here in Virginia. I think they should also ban S&W .357 revolvers in good condition.

How about a ban on light ineffective criminal sentencing for convicted uncooperative mentally ill people ?

This nut should have had some jail or involuntary commitment time for his past stalking conviction and probably a permanent requirement to attend therapy or be locked up

The definition of common sense gun laws keeps expanding (coupled with the promise of “Nobody wants to take your guns away from you.”).

Those who want an unarmed society have just WON.
The USA has just finalized agreement on the UN small arms weapon ban, in advance of financial reset and firearms collection during resulting civil unrest.
Media outlets failed to report this, as expected....

Media Silent As US Agrees To ‘Full Implementation’ of United Nations Gun Control Pact

The United States quietly agreed to an alarming gun control agreement presented by the UN to track “the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons.”

By Rachel Blevins - July 8, 2018

While the United States is typically set apart from other countries when it comes to gun laws, a recent conference with the United Nations has raised major red flags, as the U.S. agreed to enact “full implementation” of an international agreement on gun control that will violate Americans’ constitutional rights by adding their personal information to a global database.

The Third Review Conference (RevCon) of the United Nations’ Program of Action (PoA) on Small Arms and Light Weapons was held in New York last week with a 2018 agreement, which states that its purpose is to serve as “a renewed commitment to prevent, combat and eradicate the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects.”

“We, the States participating in the third United Nations Conference to review progress made in the implementation of the Program of Action to prevent, combat and eradicate the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects, convened at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 18 to 29 June 2018 to review progress made in implementation and identify priorities for strengthened implementation, reaffirm our commitment to the full and effective implementation of all of the provisions of the Program of Action and the International Tracing Instrument, with a view to ending the human suffering caused by the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons.”

The agreement states that it will act as an “international instrument to enable states to identify and trace, in a timely and reliable manner,” light arms and small weapons, while “bearing in mind the different situations, capacities, and priorities of States and regions.” All the while, it will be tracking “progress made in the implementation of the International Tracing Instrument; noted the challenges to the implementation of the Instrument, whether continuing, recent or emerging.”

The conflict and post-conflict situations addressed by the agreement include the need for “disarmament, demobilization and reintegration programs and community violence reduction programs,” along with international instruments, such as, “regular inventories, surplus disposal, including through destruction, and the implementation of appropriate measures when losses are detected.”

The agreement also listed management and security measures that would include “marking, record-keeping and, as appropriate, tracing by law enforcement authorities, for illicit small arms and light weapons that are found, seized, or recovered in conflict and post-conflict situations.”

The problem isn’t the gun.
Disarm black males between ages of 15 and 35 and the “gun violence” issue decreases by about 75%. Disarm “hispanics” and it decreases another 20%. Better yet, disarm Democrats and the problem disappears entirely.

The definition of common sense gun laws keeps expanding (coupled with the promise of “Nobody wants to take your guns away from you.”).

Remember when they passed mandatory seat belt laws?? At first it was only people sitting in the front seat had to wear them and it would only be a secondary violation. Now police are actively pulling you over to give a seat belt ticket. If anyone thinks the Democrats don’t want to take guns away from the populace then they probably believed if you like your Doctor you can keep your doctor and all the other BS lies told to sell Obamacare.
