We know a guy whose vacation corresponded to the beginning of the shutdown, he did his 2 week hunt and now finds out he will get back pay and that won’t count as his vacation.

I remember my last vacation. Dimly. It was in the last century. Joys of the private sector.

Some of those are wrong. The 138 work days is wrong. That is based on the number of days Congress is in session. It does not include time in the District when they hold town halls, meet with constituents, etc. My Congresscritter had to pay for most of his travel to and from the District. The $139K pension is misleading. That is only for members with long tenure in Congress and ranking committee or leadership positions. If they had been in the private sector for 20+ years as a CEO or other corporate leader, they would likely receive a similar benefit. I am not saying they don’t get a sweet deal that is just ripe for corruption, but please don’t damage our cause by promoting “lies”.

Thanks for the correction. Wish i read your post before i posted my summation of the statements of the article.

I did worked contract for some years. Routinely I would have to wait up to 135+ days just to get paid for work performed. And of course, I had to pay for my own medical, any pension investments, etc ALL came out of my own damn pocket.

The tax payers are being economically gang banged by bloated unionized government employees.

Home prices did fall about 30% from their peak to trough in my area of the DC metro. I did sell out and bought a home with cash in a much lower cost area.

they also got ‘cost of living increases’ every single year that the elderly, disabled and veterans were denied any COL increase during obama’s term- government kept claiming the cost of living index hadn’t changed, therefore our nation’s most vulnerable citizens were denied increases, but by golly everyone i n the government got their yearly cost of living increases

That is a foreign concept to the government class. I would love to see these people who have great medical coverage, vacation time, mental health time and pensions but cry poverty after two weeks of no pay have to file quarterly taxes for a few years. They would be in a fetal position after the first quarter.

I’ve got nothing but contempt for these people. They’re the problem. The public servants became the masters.

IOW, you entered the profession when public service meant you and like minded colleagues were supposed to serve the public and left when it transformed into the public is supposed to serve the public servants.

IOW, the EU model.

I know and when we do take time off we don’t return to a ready-made paycheck.
