I love the P365, but I wouldn’t call it a pocket pistol. As with any semi with no safety, it belongs in a retention holster (either IWB or OWB) with a trigger guard.

“Check out the Sig P365. Extremely small 9mm. Accurate. 10 rounds.“

Ditto! I replaeced my Glock 43 with the Sig P365. Its the best conealed carry pistol made IMO.

For pocket carry, I use the original LCP or my S&W 60 (357) revolver. Can’t imagine a revolver guy thinking the LCP has a difficult trigger. I prefer to carry the 357 in an Uncle Mike’s holster clipped to keep the grip out of the pocket. Then cover it with an untucked shirt. Shooting 357 with it at the range is no fun, but I doubt I’ll notice any recoil if I need it for real.

The following is JMHO.

I love gun threads but I gotta say I am not thrilled with this article. Its more about selling the authors picks than choosing a pocket carry. If one is going to discuss and promote “pocket” pistols, one should make clear how to pocket carry safely and what guns are not appropriate. Very much like ladies purse carry, a pistol in a pocket can be subject to snagging the trigger and unintentional discharge if mishandled.

No semi without a solid safety (ie Glocks, certain new Sigs, etc) should be in a pocket, They should be in a holster (IWB or OWB) with retention and a trigger guard. Even semi’s with a safety would be better with a trigger cover tied to the pocket or belt so that it comes off following removal from the pocket.

Sorry for preaching but the first photo is the article with the finger on the trigger, semi in the pocket is bad form to say the least.

You called that one right; I'm not a revolver guy. I'm very much a 1911 guy who also likes Glocks, but I'm still getting used to revolvers. Note: I also hate the DA option on the Walther PPK, with its long 13.5 to 17.5 pound pull depending on caliber.

In other words, about average for 'Am Shooting Journal'.

Kimber Micro 9’s are pretty nice and surprisingly little recoil.

Do you find the trigger pull hampering? As I said, I am a bit clumsy and think the harder pull on the LCP would save me from a whoopsie moment, as opposed to the LCP II that pulls easier but might put an unwanted hole in my body when adrenaline kicks in.

SIG P365

I'm a small man, 5'7 1/2" (shrinking because of older age and all the spinal etc.) and my hands are short and stubby.

I'm interested in this page because I have become more concerned about personal safety now that I am no longer capable of otherwise defending myself.

I honestly don't care if it's pink, black or purple ....

It has to fit my hand on a moment's notice and work.

I don’t mind the pull at all, and yes - I too am worried about a ‘whoopsie moment’.

I have some of the guns listed in the article. Two of them I especially love.

I have never trusted .380. I carried a 25 pocket pistol for years, it was accurate for 15 or 20 yards but not deadly at that range.

One of my kids (a cop) got an inexpensive Kel-Tek 9mm. It came with a belt clip. He didn’t like the double action only and sold it to me for cheap. I had a problem with it and Kel-Tek repaired it for free. It shoots straight and true. Interestingly it came with a belt clip. I do not use a holster, it clips onto my trousers and what very small portion sticks up above my trousers is hidden by my shirt blousing over it slightly. It replaced my S&W Shield that holds an extra round but hides about the same perhaps a little better but this is substantially lighter.

I never liked carrying the S&W because of the size and weight but I never even think of the Kel-Tek, sometimes I have to feel with my hand to make sure I put it on.

Whatever weapon you choose make sure it is something you will carry. I always recommend you get a double action only weapon for safety sake. You have to practice more with it to be accurate but you won’t hurt anyone unintentionally. A weapon does no good in your car or in a drawer at home if you are not at the drawer or in the car.

I learned shooting with a J-frame 22 LR. I’d bet its trigger pull is in the 20 lb range. Grip hard, pull hard, pull long...it will eventually fire! Nice SA though.

Lot like my Taurus Ultra Lite 38, I chose it when arthritis got my hands so bad I couldn’t rack or clean the .380 Bersa automatic. Recoils not bad, easy to conceal and has a small hand grip for smaller hands like small women. Just throw on a vest and you are good to go.

The change to the trigger actually happened during production of the LCP, prior to the LCPII. The later LCP has the same trigger as the LCPII. It’s the early LCP that has the really long trigger pull. You can tell an early LCP by its serial number which has one less digit than the later LCP. The early version also has smaller sights, although even the later version has smaller sights than the LCPII.

I think Ruger had the right idea with the early LCP. It’s a pure pocket carry gun, not a range fun gun. The long trigger pull makes sense for safety, especially for a gun made for close encounters where a light trigger doesn’t gain you much. Same deal with the sights, which were low profile to the point of being almost useless but wouldn’t snag your pocket.

They moved away from this concept with the later LCP and then even further with the LCPII.
