Natural Health

Many FReepers have knowledge to share about improving and maintaining health and would like to share it and learn from others; and others may not know much yet but want to learn. Some of us don't have much money for good insurance or doctors, some want to try other methods besides prescription meds, and some have experience in treating and solving health problems.

More and more "regular" doctors have accepted treatment methods such as the benefits of acupuncture, massage for many conditions, better diet, use of herbs and so on. There are limits, and often side effects, to some standard medical efforts.

My field is Ayurvedic herbalism and related measures, and have a lot of information I can post when I have time. I have seen herbs and sometimes dietary changes help people (including myself) with issues such as rheumatoid arthritis, high BP, gallstones, kidneystones, repeated boils, UTIs, prostate problems, insomnia, allergies, urinary incontinence, and many more. I hope to learn a lot from others with their knowledge and experience.

There are many "old fashioned" home care methods that were in common use a few generations ago that actually work and are cheap, such as castor oil packs, fomentations using alternating hot and cold water, and the like, which are easy to do. I am sure there is a lot of knowledge here on Free Republic that can be shared.

I would like this thread to stay civil without distruption, so my request is that people who think natural health methods are bunkum, make your own thread.

I take selenium and I just started taking copper.

I’ve been on copper for about three weeks now and I’m finally not freezing to death at night.

I was having to wear a turtleneck, fleece pants, a very thick bathrobe with a hood on it that I always used, socks, slippers and gloves and my feet and hands still felt like ice and I couldn’t get warm.

I don’t live in freaking North Dakota, I live in the SF Bay Area for crying out loud.

Anyway, since I’m finally feeling normal again I might cut the copper dose in half or take every other day so I don’t get too much.

Copper is another one of those things that they don’t want you to take that fixes a bunch of stuff.

I tried taking iodine for a while and I felt great but after a while I felt like it was too much. Got kind of hyper. Endo said not to take it so I quit but I feel like I might need some of that too. I was going to lower the amount I was taking but I’m trying to be a model prisoner so I can get my meds.

you have to take iodine with selenium and vice versa. your issue is most likely detox so drop an 1/8 tsp of good salt (I like Redmond’s real salt) on your tongue, let it dissolve for 30 seconds or so then drink a big glass of water. If the symptom goes away almost immediately, it was detox. It’s also crucial to take alot of vitamin c and mag as those open the detox pathways.

if you are referring to something like plantar warts, I have many times with my kids taken a piece of a banana peel and taped if over the wart for several days to a week (changing it out daily or whenever you want to based on bathing etc). Works every time to get rid of them. The other thing we have done is get duck tape and tape it over the wart...that has worked in the past also but we mainly do the banana peel.

Just commenting on Epstein Barr... drinking 1 cup of juiced celery each morning will completely gut Epstein Barr. Look up “The Medical Medium”...tons of people have seen major results with it. Epstein Barr has been linked to alot of issues.

very interesting. I have EBV and I guess it’s residing in my thyroid according to my functional med. She says the iodine is keeping it at bay but it’s not eradicated.

How are you juicing the celery? Can you use a vitamix and just throw a few stalks in with water?

The iodine protocol is a little scary so I just take fucoidan daily. Hope it does the trick. Iodine deficiency can lead to disease

My husband was diagnosed years ago with COPD and used rescue inhalers for it. The VA put him on Simbacort. He used that twice a day, plus the rescue inhalers 4 -5 times a day. The doctor said his blood work came back with indications of blood cancer and sent him to a cancer specialist.

The cancer doctor did blood work and asked what meds he was on. When he told him Simbacort, he said that was the problem. It has adverse effects - like the blood count. He said to stop using the Simbacort. The blood count normalized.

But, what to do about being able to breathe????? Our daughter introduced us to essential oils. She got him on a blend called Breathe. At first, he would use it several times a day. Gradually, less and less. Now, the only time he has to use it is a situation like wood smoke or intense chemical environments....which is very rare. And he NEVER uses the rescue inhalers now.

Now, we use the oils first for any problems that come up. I want to use natural remedies like oils, herbs and a natural food diet.

I lost 90 lbs by giving up sugar and white flour. Gained back 35 lbs. That’s when doc put me on metformine and thyroid. My goal is to get off of BP med, metformine, and thyroid med.

Yaelle...you are totally right that deficiency leads to chronic disease but the protocol itself is definitely not scary. Try it and see how you feel.

I started taking Vital Proteins collagen (10 grams, 1/2 recommended dose) about a month ago hoping it might help ease my Florida sun wrinkles. I’m beginning to notice a difference but am experiencing a bonus I didn’t expect. My arthritis pain has reduced from a constant 6-7 (1-10 scale) to 1. In a month.I’m stunned. I’d tried tumeric/cucermin with some relief, but not consistent. My doc wanted to put me on drugs. I disagreed and continued with occasional aspirin and walking and just living life in spite of it:)

I’ve been pain FREE for the first time in years!! I walk with ease and no grimmacing or groans. I’m gobsmacked!

Collagen is interestimg as it’s incomplete (has no l tryptophan) and there are anecdotal reports that depressive or anxiety prone people may have some of those symptoms so I guess that’s a possible side effect. I’ve also read it’s good to take vitamin C for proper assimilation/absorbtion so that’s something to consider as well.

I too am blown away at how I feel on the collagen. I’m taking 10-11 grams at each meal and I feel amazing. What I read, which makes a ton of sense, is that when your stress hormones rise (cortisol and adrenaline) it can cause your sugar to spike. Collagen lowers your stress hormones so you won’t have the sugar spike. Also, muscle meat of any kind raises stress hormones so the collagen helps balance you out.

Thanks.

I’ll try the salt and see if that works.

As soon as I can I’ll start iodine again but at a smaller dose.

Top secret. However, if you can accept that almost all impaired health afflicting the population at this time is as a result of slow poisoning from multiple sources and - in most cases - is self-inflicted...

...you have enlightenment. That stated, “eating clean” is neither a single point solution for someone who’s been poisoned for years-to-decades. Nor is any single ‘diet’. Or cookbook. Or supplement. Or...you get the point. Based upon the last couple years of my experience attempting outreach, it’s a bit too complex for most people to wrap their heads around and the primary reason that the result of my work - contained in my as-yet published books - will more than likely provide a guide for practitioners to help their patients as opposed to individuals helping themselves. A distinct minority will accept my conclusions until it is too late...again, for reasons I cannot elaborate upon at this time. There are so many branches to this metaphorical tree that it makes for some fascinating reading. Even after I re-read what I wrote 5 years ago, it still blows me away.

Case in point: I can cite over a dozen examples of people suffering health problems as severe as GERD but less severe than Cancer, told them that they can heal themselves and not a SINGLE ONE followed through on even TRYING my advice.

I am simply unwilling to pay for a PhD to get people to pay attention. I’m engaged in a quiet search for a doctor - MD, ND or PhD - to join me to give it some validity up-front.

There are a few clues in there, but that’s all the detail I’m willing to get into at this time. Start shopping for a Naturopath practicing Ayurveda to get started, but there are major shortcomings in that discipline as well (Ayurveda did NOT help my health, but there are a number of reasons for that and why I still recommend Ayurveda as a health aid). Trust me when I state that I would have preferred to NOT engage the 1000s of hours of research, writing and trial/error to heal myself.

I would much rather have read a book or followed the advice of someone wiser than me. There’s a lesson in there. If someone else wrote about how I did it and (the big one) “why” my health declined and “why” what I did worked, I never found it.

Ironically, neither has anyone else to-date.

“prostate enlargement and cancer are due to iodine deficiency.”

Do you have any links where I could read about this?

Thanks
