A high speed train between Richmond and DC make total sense but the yokels voted it down. They would have to expand the rail corridor a little to add new tracks. This way too much for them.

The issue with high speed rail is that morons don’t follow the law. Every high speed line would have to be completely segregated from all pedestrian and road traffic. No crossings, only overpasses. All the overpasses would have to have extensive fencing to keep people from chucking stuff at the train. The track would all have to be new because the old track is in poor shape.

The commuter lines into DC are a mess. In the summer they run slow trains even slower due to heat restrictions on the track.
