Thoughts on the Taurus TX22 vs. the New Glock 44 Pistol

Taurus TX22 Pistol

I seldom do gun reviews. They take a lot of time to do right; many others are already doing them. That doesn't mean I won't comment on items that deserve it.

Taurus TX22 Pistol

I mentioned the Taurus TX22 from the Shot Show last year. I was impressed with the pistol. I recently acquired one, by purchase, at the normal price.

It is an impressive pistol, a great choice for nearly everything a .22 pistol is called upon to do. I have had a hard time finding serious accuracy testing of the pistol online, so I did what I could at the ranch, off of sandbags, with the stock sights.

The best results are shown in the picture. A five-shot group under an inch at 50 feet is respectable accuracy for a stock .22 that can be had for $250. I believe someone with excellent eyes and skill could consistently get 1-inch groups at 50 feet, off a rest, once they found the ammo that shot best. One commenter online, who installed a red dot sight, claimed consistent .8 inch groups at 50 feet, from a rest.  A video review showed 10 shot groups at 25 yards of about 1.5 inches, using a scope sight in windy conditions. It is not match target accuracy, but it is not terribly far off. It is much better than most shooters can use in most situations.

I like the Taurus TX22. It is an excellent all-around .22 pistol.

I think A more accurate comparison based on price and intended function (mimicking a 9mm sibling) would be between the Glock 44 and the S&W M&P 22.

The Taurus TX22 is more comparable to the Ruger SR22.

You can like it until it malfunctions, which it will. It’s a Taurus.

Yep. I'll take the Glock because it's not a Taurus.

And when you send it back for repair, chances are it come back as you sent it.

Ah. Glock 44 is not chambered in .44. Got it.

Yep. I recently bought a Ruger SR1911, which thus far has proven to be a great pistol, and had the option to buy a taurus PT1911 for roughly half cost, but got the more expensive Ruger because it wasn’t a taurus.

I can only imagine the Trainwreck a cheap Brazilian 1911 would be

.22 Long Rifle. Looks identical to my 19 (9mm), other than the hole in front is smaller.

I have a Walther PPQ 22, which I like, but it will not cycle on subsonic ammo.

Glock finally came out with a .22, no kidding?

I might have to go rent one just out of curiosity.

It is "coming out" on 20 January, at the Shot Show in Vegas, I presume.

As a highly influential member of the Gun Media, I have been invited to the Industry Day at the Range, the day before the Shot Show opens.

I hope to shoot the Glock 44 at that time.

If it is as accurate as the TX22 I have, it will be a superb pistol.

I've always wondered why not a Glock .22.

Not that I'm a big fan of Glocks, but I find this one intriguing. I know someone else who might reallyreally like it... I might end up getting two. :)

I'm still kinda leery of Taurus autoloaders but I really like their revolvers at their price point, 'specially some of the old ones.

It would be really cool if Glock made a .22LR on the 42 frame.

I know of the Taurus reputation. In my view, the TX22 will go a long way to heal it.

My son and I each have the TX22. It is close to perfect. Gobbles ammo, reliable, accurate. Great feel and control. It is just a blast to shoot. I dare you to resist dumping the full mag load after the 3rd shot. I love it.

I’m sure there’s a decent Taurus out there. I’ve fired a few.

After sending a .22Mag revolver back to Taurus TWO times(and still not repaired), never, ever again will I own another Taurus.

p.s. I love my Bersa .380!
