The pretext is indeed flimsy. But it’s more than just flimsy. It is despicable.

But it is also quite legal. The Constitution gives the House the absolute power to impeach, and the Senate the absolute power to convict. And that’s the way it has to be. Otherwise, a tyrannical president could not be removed except by assassination.

So make no mistake about it. If someone (military or civilian) takes up arms over this, that person is going against the Constitution, and against the Rule of Law. It is, essentially, treason.

Now, maybe acts of treason are necessary to set this country right. But that is a whole other issue.

I heard somewhere that while it takes 2/3’s to convict it only takes 51 to prevent from holding Federal office again. Sure hope that’s wrong, it would be too tempting for traitors like Romney to use.

Not exactly-First he has to be found guilty. If guilty his punishment(judgement) is restricted to removal from office and perhaps from future office. It doesn’t even have to be both. However, if it’s a criminal act, he may also face legal/criminal charges.

Here is the Constitution:

“The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.”

Senators don’t get elected by being politically clueless. They know that Republican voters are not complete idiots, and that they could not even get elected o dog catcher if they voted to convict an obviously innocent President in their own party.

Yes! Many people persist in trying to apply standard judicial rules here. Standard judicial rules simply do not apply to an impeachment.

But you’re aiming they WANT to be in control of those branches. When they are, nominally, they act as if they weren’t, they throw winnable elections all the time, and they seem perfectly happy to be in the minority.

No. Because believe it or not this impeachment trial that may soon start in the Senate is not about President Trump at all.

This is a classic power struggle between Democrats in the House and Republicans in the Senate.

If this truly was about President Trump, do not doubt for a moment that Senate Republicans would’ve thrown him under the bus many months ago and Mike Pence would be sitting in the oval office by now.

If I walk in as President, and since the dem party has run this thus far by any means they think profits them.. its for sure The Donald knows how to beat the first sign of trickery.

The gop has let the dims do anything for so long.. the dims may walk in there thinking they own the Senate.. then the fight breaks out. This is Trump’s chance to do what he wanted.. he will be loaded to bare. He wants to expose their lies, and if mcconnell doesn’t end it.. Trump will have his day!

The corruption that has been working deep and wide just grows with every dent made.. in Noah’s day, only Noah and his family were worthy to be saved from the flood and destruction..

Schiff tried to transmit some more evidence to demonize Trump’s associates, but none of it will lead directly to him, which makes it pointless.


It’s not pointless. I believe one intention was to ensnare Rudy in a FISA case with this Ukrainian Lev Parnas nonsense. Cue obstruction charges should POTUS try to shut down the FISA court in its current form.

IMHO, here’s what we need to do:

Contact EVERY SENATOR (not just our own) by phone, fax, mail.

Find them here: https://www.senate.gov

Remind them politely but firmly that we who stand with our Armed Forces are holding them accountable, because:

There were no “high crimes and misdemeanors”, the House impeachment was a SHAM; and we are watching their votes to insure they do NOT vote to convict the President.

We need to remind them that each Senator's future is as much at peril as this Presidency.

It is all but impossible that there are 67 votes to remove Trump from office

It would be suicide for the Republican Party and could potentially ignite a civil war

And President Trump would still be probably be reelected in 2020.

All the talk is about a few Republicans jumping ship on the rules

The Democrats are in a lose lose. If they get to call witnesses, Trump gets to call witnesses too so the Dems are screwed.

If we have to work on the House’s current record, it will be comical for Democrats

All the critics will finally understand why the House Republicans did what they did in their questioning and just how great a job they actually did do

President Trump is very unpopular in Blue Coastal America, and about 11 points popular in purple and Red America. Two countries now, going in opposite directions.
