OR.....if you have a lot of guns, you could hunt up the nearest Mormon family and take their 2 year supply that they keep on hand.

A N95 mask will filter out viruses. Although I think in one test of 900 people, only 25% had a proper fit.

However, the mask is also a reminder not to touch your face with your hands, so it is helpful.

Goggles are important too. The surface tension of the moisture on your eyeballs will attract the small particles of virus suspended for hours in the air. And then take them a short distance to the nasal passages.

I have to go to Costco tomorrow. I’m not sure I’m up for the face mask and swim goggles yet. Maybe I’ll bring them with me.

My son saw a person downtown (Seattle) that had a full face respirator on. (Not the most foolish of ideas actually. $200 for a decent one on Amazon).

“As of Dec 2019, 2400 people have died from the flu and 2.5 Million people where infected - and you are worried about the 81 people that have died, mostly in 3rd world hell-holes living in unsanitary conditions?”

You haven’t been to China, lately, I can see. Anyway, the 1918 flu pandemic was a bit nastier than the numbers you list.

Yes, and how did most people live in 1918? what was the state of medical care? how about the sanitary conditions back then?

Go ahead, panic if it makes you feel better.

Don’t forget antivirals, like honeysuckle tea, which is equal to tamiflu in fighting off viral tuff.

Don’t forget that elderberry is related to honeysuckle, and has been used for centuries to fight colds and flu.

“Go ahead, panic if it makes you feel better.”

Well, if you think being prepared is ‘panicking’, so be it. A lot of us here are not ready to fully trust the government, nor the medical community, to save us.

So you actually believe that China would put 50+ million people on lockdown over 81 people dead? One doesn’t turn a city of 11 million (and others) into a ghost town over the flu.

I would say “WHEN it starts in the US.”

I forgot how to change my tagline. It used to be “Ever Vigilant. Never Fearful.”

“gas for cars or generators”

Many years ago I dabbled into survivalist planning and gave up on trying to save gas for a car simply because we are talking hundreds of gallons for a scenario lasting several months. The problem is where to store it. A worse problem is defending it from the hoards of have-nots. A grave situation is being put in front of a firing squad after you were found guilty of anti-hoarding laws.

Some of these zombie shows, like The Walking Dead, even though fictional drama, do offer some insight as to how things could potentially develop. Small armed groups banding together scavenging whatever they can find and competing with other groups in deadly confrontations might be what would happen.

We’ll have to see what the fatality rate settles out at; 15% but data is early and suspect. It appears that 4/5 get it when exposed. Virus could mutate but hopefully attenuates.

Looking at some you tube Wuhan looks like a ghost town. If we get that here, economy will tank, deliveries stop and some form of marital law.

All my kids have camping water filters. Takes a bit of work, but even puddle water can be made drinkable. Also ordered elderberry, Vitamin D3, hydration mixes and N95 masks for all of them. Yeah - they think I’m nuts!

Although the masks will also be helpful during wildfires next summer.

Just one more bit of evidence that only kooks are mostly left to inhabit what was once a very interesting and intelligent website with actual thought provoking discussion.

I don't like hearing that, not even as a joke. Conservatives are supposed to be the good guys. In any case, my LDS friends are as well armed as I am, and they can shoot.

If those that work power generating facilities end up sick/dead, the grid will go down eventually.

there a lot of Chinese students (many whom, I’m sure, are spies). ................................. LOL, how true, but the highest percentage are not the military type ones, they are everywhere copying what they can, to produce for less. I was a crafter, they loved my display so much they had to take photos of the things I made. A year or 2 later they were exporting copies. The big C came into my life and it didn’t mater anymore, as I didn’t expect to live beyond 6 yrs.. I had no copyrights on anything I made.

“Other than the fact that you may have a staffing/personel/support breakdown in a full pandemic panic...”

Yes.

“Do I go into work and maybe get this virus” or

“I’m sick and I need to stay at home” or

“My child (wife, parent) is sick and I need to take care of them.”, or

“With the quarantine I need to stand in line at the store/pharmacy/gas station to get what I need.”

From inside China....it seems a bit more serious than a “cold”.

Everybody is trying to contain this without causing a panic that would affect the global economy....

The risk appetite of the global elite decision makers is a good bit higher as long as only peasants and commoners are dying.

I’m not going to be particularly worried about this coronavirus until it starts actually spreading in the US … if people in the US start catching it from people in the US.

I’ve currently got supplies to last me a couple of weeks right now.

As well as a month of “internal stores”.
