Yes - UV light works to destroy the virus. (But no - it doesn’t “clean” the surfaces.) It only destroys viruses that are exposed to the UV light. Need to wear UV goggles and cover exposed skin.
around March, San Diego and Travis bases, NIMBY rabble-rousers were quickly complaining that ‘virus is in their neighborhood’. (which cracked me up since it was sanctuary county snowflakes and illegals complaining about disease).
It wasn’t just the evacuees that were badmouthed - some military personnel were confronted off-base by crazies. But the rabblerousers couldn’t get to the evacuees because they were behind marshals and base police. What if they had been off base? Chances are they would have been harassed same as the base folks have been harassed.
In China, infected and even non-infected (ratted out by neighbors with a grudge) were drug from their homes, beaten and disappeared. In Russia, Chinese businesses were burned. The evacuees were terrified of being stigmatized.
We’d rather not have that here in the US, so we put our folks on the bases to protect them from nutcases. And now the evacuees can go home with written proof they are disease-free. And since there is no longer any reason to harass them, the nutcases can go back to being nutcases about some other issue.
The answer is so obvious, it needs no explanation.

Today on Fox Business/Neil Cavutto’s show I heard the White House physician, Richard Tubb mention some sort of nano-derived titanium dioxide product in a conversation concerning surface contamination.
The conversation centered around safe flying...and the trays and pockets in planes are filthy regardless of coronavirus...
I LOVE prepping. And yes, all the cool kids are doing it.
The word quarantine comes from a seventeenth-century Venetian variant of the Italian quaranta giorni, meaning forty days, the period that all ships were required to be isolated before passengers and crew could go ashore during the Black Death plague epidemic.[4] Quarantine can be applied to humans, but also to animals of various kinds, and both as part of border control as well as within a country.

I don’t think it is “alarming” in the sense of panicking.
It comes from more a place of we didn’t do this for SARS, Swine, MERS...etc.
The government is taking precautions in ways we haven’t witnessed before. WE are noticing that their actions are inconsistent with what they are telling us.
And yet, some are trying to convince us it is just another form of the flu bug. Hand washing and sneezing into your elbow is sufficient...yet the government is quarantining people.
Not to really be a Henny Penny, but what about all the illegals crossing the border? What happens when they are all infected? See...what happens then? It’s too late already, we just don’t know it yet. I heard they anticipate to see it go full blown here in the next 2-4 weeks.
Intent was to buffer inflow of contagion into the US by airline traffic.
Some reports from inside China circa 11Feb20 indicated a death count closer to 240,000 up from >24,000 on 1Feb20.
A captured screenshot from a Chinese reporting system shows how the reported numbers appear to be reset from 11pm 1Feb2020 to 4pm 2Feb2020, seen here at time mark 11:45 of 56:56 at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_Ij6XzNOuM on The Hagmann Report with Stan Deyo speaking.
At this rate, if it does come to the US, it could easily get out of hand and 24 quarantine centers at 1000 person capacity each would be a drop in the bucket. (It would be easier for the healthy to go there and await the rest of the world to go infected within 3 months.)
Not a good idea until a vaccine is available. I would hate to see half of the 82 Airborne or 101st Airmoblie Division get sick and unable to deploy.
Thanks, and I WAS quarantined for about 2 weeks years ago.No fun.
