What is the possible use in the market if the testing is fast tracked?

If Inslee hadn’t dropped the ball on testing, those 31 deaths would have been prevented by testing workers who may have brought the infection into the center.

The nursing home probably would not have been allowed to test, even had the tests been working and available.

The criteria were ridiculously limited, travel from China or known hot spot like cruise ship, and symptomatic. Or close contact with a person as above plus symptomatic.

Wouldn’t have caught the silent carriers or community acquired cases.

I believe it was Fire/EMS that reported an unusual number of severe respiratory cases. Not the nursing home or its doctor, not the hospital, not the health department, not the medical examiner. Some of the lowest degreed grunts in the chain.

I have my own story about my son’s respiratory experience that is alarming. There is lots of irresponsibility going on. I think the Kirkland Life Care Center may be getting some huge malpractice lawsuits for not protecting their residents. They should have had proper infection abatement policies in practice. They revealed their reckless disregard for these human beings. Follow the money.

The Corona vaccine will be the quickest to reach the public in history.

Hope this is true. If so, we can tell China to go to hell. Also, send all Chinese students back to China and close all Confucius Centers in the US.

Most estimates suggest that from, testing and production could take between 18 months and two years, though Greffex has not announced its timeline. Bullsh#t. We have a virus shutting down the world. Testing is going straight to humans and the ordinary red tape will be eliminated.

“Testing is going straight to humans”

That’s not what the article said. Take it up with them.

Any vaccine will take around a year to go through even accelerated trials. There are a few companies with candidates. Paraphrasing the aviation saying, these (clinical trial) protocols are written in blood so it is probably unwise to truncate the clinical trials too much.

Additionally, the virus mutates quickly, one nucleotide mutation for every couple transmissions. Some people with immunity even get reinfected, indicating the difficulty of creating a vaccine if even a previous infection does not guarantee immunity even in the near term.

However, there is a good chance that plasma (containing antibodies) from people who have been infected and recovered will greatly diminish the morbidity and mortality for severe cases. Plasma from previously infected and recovered persons does not have to go through clinical trials.

Due to the genetic diffusion of the virus, genetic testing and using plasma from people who were infected with similar strains would be best, if we can get inside the OODA loop, i.e. sequence the infecting strains and use plasma from the closest (ancestor strain) available for the patient would be optimal. If not use plasma from the same community.

Focus resources on using plasma from recovered patients on the most endangered patients, in the near term.

“Report: US Scientists Have Completed A Coronavirus Vaccine” now comes the hard part: the process for human testing for safety AND efficacy which typically takes 18 months or so and for which there is currently no shortcut ...

Oh, it shouldn't be hard at all. I fully expect to see all those naysayers who think this is no more serious than a cold be real heroes and step right up to the front of the line for human testing. Hey, I heard it should pay pretty good.

A vaccine only prevents you from getting it IF you get the vaccine, do you know how many people never get the flu vaccine!!!

This was reported tonight and can be done right now!! Plasma from people who have recovered can be given to seriously ill patients, there are MANY citizens that have recovered and are very willing to give their blood to help with this immediately!! Vaccines don’t help people get well they only help with prevention!, I believe we also treated the few Ebola patients with the plasma from the one recovered gentleman and they all recovered!!!

"Most estimates suggest that from, testing and production could take between 18 months and two years, though Greffex has not announced its timeline."

Unless fast-tracked by cutting the regulatory burden, which Trump's "declaration of emergency" gives him the power to do. It ain't gonna take two years, folks.

"...Testing is going straight to humans and the ordinary red tape will be eliminated."

I am trying to be hopeful about a vaccine but it is hard because the thing is too much like a cold, and other coronaviruses provoke no lasting immunity. I am encouraged that at least one problem has been solved with the introduction and approval of a vaccine for dengue fever which I thought would never happen. Here's a link which you might want to see if Dengue fever interests you:

https://www.statnews.com/2017/11/02/dengue-second-infection/

Could you recommend any site with good information that would encourage you about the possibilty of vaccine development for SARS-CoV-2? Also do you have any specifics about red-tape being removed?

Here is a summary of what I know.

1. Indemnification- Vaccine makers are protected when their new vaccine kills somebody.

2. Financing- Since the immunizations scare a few years ago the big companies don't want to invest so some gov't money and some billionaire money has been promised.

3. Inovio has copied a sequence of the rna which could be used in development, and an Israeli group has a sequence splicing thing that you can just plug your recent variations into.

4. The work that was abandoned on the SARS vaccine is still on the shelf and they can pick up work where they left off and continue it in this new direction. Maybe when this COVID-19 proves to not be so serious as is hyped, they won't drop all the work this time.

Phase 1 trials are safety trials. Lets be sure not to kill people. Phase 2 is efficacy in animals. Phase 3 is efficacy in humans. Best hope is 20 months away if this first try even works.

Don't let me waste your time, but please know I will be grateful for any knowledge you share!

Freegards!

Here's a timeline for the Swine flu vaccine:

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/pandemic-resources/pandemic-timeline-1930-and-beyond.htm

April 17, 2009: A new H1N1 virus is detected in the U.S. CDC begins working to develop a virus (called a candidate vaccine virus) that could be used to make vaccine to protect against this new virus.

April 25, 2009: The World Health Organization (WHO) declares a public health emergency of international concern.

June 11, 2009: WHO officially declares the new 2009 H1N1 outbreak a pandemic.

2009: CDC begins a complex and multi-faceted response to the H1N1 pandemic which lasts more than a year.

2009: Physicians use point of care rapid immunoassay tests to provide influenza results within 15 minutes during the H1N1 pandemic

October 5, 2009: The first doses of monovalent H1N1 pandemic vaccine are administered.

Putting together your swine flu timeline and the reference article information, I gather that the VLP strategy which was so successful then is being tried now on the coronavirus. The timeline will not be as quick this time assuming/hoping/expecting that the first try is good, but delays will not come from red tape. Will they? The existing flu vaccine machinery and raw material was converted immediately then to swine flu vaccine production and delivery. Will we do that again?

Thanks!
