Are you implying that its OK if somebody over 70 dies? How do you know they wouldn’t have lived 15 more years?

Obliterating the United States economy, leaving it in smoldering ruins (and this is what we allowed to happen) to extend the lives of 70-years olds doesn't make any sense.

Not to me, anyways.

“This was heart wrenching, no one could accompany her into the hospital and no visitors were allowed.”

My dear friend in California was given a cancer diagnosis on Friday afternoon — while her mother and twin sister cooled their heels in the car. It was tough, as she’s pretty fragile emotionally. As you said: “heart wrenching”.

I know from experience that it’s tough to hear that word from a doctor’s mouth and it’s good to have emotional support sitting next to you. Although when it happened to me, I was the strong one and my husband freaked out. Still ... it’s nice to have someone with you.

"My impression is that the virus circulated along the commuter train, subway and NYC bus lines. 130 miles NE of NYC is probably at least 50 miles distant from any of those lines. The second identified NY state patient was a Jewish lawyer in Westchester who commuted daily to an office near Grand Central."

Interesting, except, why didn't Philly have the same problem going out the Green Line? Why didn't Boston spike along BART lines?

I think it's more that NYC missed the first wave of COVID-19 over the holidays that washed over the West Coast all the way to the Midwest and South; and that NYC got a direct dose of the COVID-19 "L" strain straight from Wuhan via Italy.

"OTOH, my M-I-L had a bad cough last week that got better on Fri & Sat, but today she felt really punk and had a "very high fever," thought they didn't divulge that figure. We're praying for her!"

My dude, get her tested asap, and if she's positive, see if her doctor believes she could handle Prof. Raoult's protocol.

This is my biggest issue with this. We’re told we have to shut down everything so our hospitals aren’t overrun. NYC is overrun which was predictable by everyone but the ruling elite of NYC, and the rest of the country is paying for it by having their cases skew the overall numbers. Meanwhile hospitals all over the country are laying people off for lack of patients.

I was onboard with this initially. But it’s reached the point of being both insane and unsustainable. We know much more now than we did when we started. We can keep social distancing and wear masks. We can tamp down hotspots when they flare up. We can get on with our lives and try to resuscitate our economy that’s gasping it’s last breaths on life support.

Enough. It’s time.

“The models were done WITH the mitigation in place Fauci said that even WITH the mitigation in place the death toll would be 100,000 - 200,000 so the lower counts have nothing to do with mitigation because it was already figured in!! The models were DEAD WRONG!!”

It’s amazing that so few people fail to realize this.

You are presenting a false trade-off. The economy would be no better if the disease was allowed to spread unchecked.

I’m glad that Pres. Trump has different priorities than you do!

I know two who died, several friends that were hospitalized, and a couple of friends/relatives that got it but recovered without hopital treatment.

I think the New York metro area experience does show the benefit of social distancing and quarantines. In fact, without a doubt - not a doubt, at all.

Nor me. I’m in the high-risk group but under 70. I’m responsible for controlling my risks, and if I fail at that, catch COVID-19 and die, so be it. We’re all just passin’ through here.

People who are on their high horse about how tragic every COVID-19 death is are failing to realize that an extended recession/depression will have its own fatalities. Surgeries that got postponed while health conditions worsened. Screenings that got postponed and won’t catch an issue in time to treat it. Mental anguish and depression that leads to suicides or accidental overdoses. Hypertension, heart disease, strokes on the uptick. Poverty resulting in poor nutrition, lack of healthcare access, quality of life in a never-ending downward spiral.

But by all means, let’s cower under our beds and feel like war heroes because we saved a life from a cornoavirus.

I heard my cancer diagnosis all by myself. My husband was even on the other side of the world. Actually, I am glad I didn’t have to deal with his reaction or anyone else’s. Just my emotions at that time, giving me time to prepare for them.

Nobody I know has died. I don’t know anybody who has had it for sure. Four of us on a cruise early in February think we might’ve had it with mild symptoms, and different for all of us. The only constant was fever. If the blood test is offered to verify that, we’ll take it.

You’re in missions work, right? (Read your profile a while back.) It takes a tough lady to do that work, so I’m sure you handled it fine. No snowflakes on the mission field!

There have been news items, newspaper articles on the empty hospitals. Even Trump has mentioned it at his daily pressers several times.

Hospitals were told to cancel/delay elective surgeries and procedures to make room for the virus patients. Except for a handful of metro areas, the virus victims have not overrun the hospitals - many virus patients don't need hospitalizations. In addition, with people off the streets and staying home, few people are getting into car accidents and injuring themselves playing softball or hurting themselves cutting down a tree at their lake house, etc etc etc.

The result is empty hospitals. 35,000 docs and nurses were laid off by hospitals in March and many more in April. Some hospitals even have an entire staff on call only.

So hospitals are losing a ton of revenue and will need to be bailed out. Some hospitals are going broke and are preparing for bankruptcy. Some hospital parking lots are empty.

There has been a ton of photos on Twitter showing completely empty wards in some hospitals with no one on duty since there are no patients.

So Congress is planning on bailing out hospitals. It's not the hospitals' fault - they were following government orders.

If the opposite happened, and the virus was as bad as predicted and there were no hospital beds and the health care system was overrun, Trump would have been hunted down. So they did the right thing and I guess we should be glad it isn't as bad as feared.

Now, I love Trump, of course. But he has not explained it in the simple way you just did. Can someone just put those few paragraphs in front of him so he can articulate it clearly? Please!
