[Vanity] Advice on firearms?

Correction, my bayonets are the US M7 model , 6.5” blade, and the scabbard is an M8 scabbard. I have also seen the AK bayonet mounted on shotguns, but the blade is just under 6” and the sharpened single edge sits up ( looks upside down to me) ...a plus is the sheath is combined to the blade for a wire cutter. Sometimes cold steel should be called upon rather than hot lead.

Dangit, forgot to mention the bayonet will pentrate a Kevlar vest ( with no ceramic plates), your lead buck may not...never know how well equipped the bad guys may be. I do not take the issue of self defense lightly, neither should you.

Instead of a short-barrel shotgun, a better option for personal protection and for sport, would be a piston-operated .223 or 5.62, or 7.62x39.
Take a look at Kel-Tec again and their SU-16 series.
They're cheaper to buy ammo for, and they have very little recoil, making them easier and more accurate to shoot.
Plus they take any standard military clip for the M-16s.

TNPrs are stoked when I re-visit and update reviews on firearms.
However I don't do this arbitrarily; it has to be warranted.
The KelTec SU-16 qualifies.
Being one of the first tactical carbines I reviewed, it has always ranked very highly on my list.
The SU-16 series is very reliable, accurate enough, super lightweight, and durable.
And yet "tactical elite" say it's not good enough.
So we have done about ten years of shooting of the SU-16 for this updated review.
The ballots are in and we look at again critically at the KelTec offering.
Has its image been tarnished with more competition or does it shine bright as ever ?

Kel-Tec has 7 different versions of this SU-16 series all worth taking a serious look at, and worth watching a few review of each model on youtube.
Personally, I like the SU-16C model, because it can be fired from a stock-folded position.

Gee, I don’t know anything about firearms and don’t have any. But if I was looking to buy any, I sure would not put it on the internet.

There are more firearms than there are people in the U.S., it's hardly a rare thing for someone to buy a gun or talk about it on the internet. Most normal Americans wouldn't see asking for advice on the internet as anything unusual. If the day comes someone can't talk about guns on the internet then that's probably the day the second amendment's reason for existence comes into play.

If strictly for home defense and no hunting, the old Mossberg police model 12 /ga, has a pistol grip and a short length—if you can find one and they are legal in your state.

Since you are unlikely to need it unless you live in a very dangerous neighborhood, buy cheap. The snick-snack of a 12 Ga. racking a shell in the chamber is probably enough to deter most burglars. Let him run out of the house, tell his friends, and save yourself some trouble and a messy bedroom. Not to mention a screaming significant other.

Ok, name a service (other than LEO) that has a weapon that has a “trigger safety”.
BTW, LEO has the own “issues” - let’s not get into that - the links I provided showed Police Captains, A Federal LEO and others shooting themselves with Glocks.

There is no accounting for taste.

If you like the idea of a weapon like a Glock, have at it. I won’t be on the range with you though.

I was never a Glock fan. Then a few of my guns would have issues with chambering or ejecting rounds. I started thinking what happens if my guns fail me when I need them most? Then I saw this video. Needless to say, a Glock 19 with extra 33 round mags is next to my bed

You are exactly right. However, I think the day when NSA, etc, were recording all email and internet postings happened several years ago. As along as everyone understands that the internet is forever and the bad guys of any given moment can read it, we all do what we think is right.

.357 magnums are nice - as you said, it’ll shoot 38 and 38+p also with no issues.

As for autos, I like my Glocks, but if you’re not used to them, they’re a little odd. I prefer, for shoving in the pocket, something with a hammer, such as a revolver or Sig P229 or some type of 1911. The Sig P229 (Just picked up an LEO trade a fews months ago) has genuine double action first shot, then single action afterward (also holds 10-14 rounds in the mag, depending on which mag you have). The heavier trigger pull on that first shot makes it a lot less likely to AD when you reach in your coat pocket to grab your weapon.

Yeah, yeah, I know, you shouldn’t be carrying without a proper holster. Well, sometimes, conditions warrant grabbing the gun and going, with no chance to belt up or gain proper attire.

The Mossberg M500 pump is always nice.

Just like Cars and Houses, there is a Gun for every Budget.

Any Gun is better than having no Gun when you need it.

If you’re broke, get a Hi Point. People hate them because they are cheap and heavy, but you get a 9mm Handgun for less than $150. I have one in my collection, It goes Bang when I need it to. It’s just a plinker and “reach for” Pistol I keep handy in the House.

I also carry a 9mm Taurus G2c. It holds 10 rounds (or 12 with an extended Magazine which I have) and it works for me. You can get one for under $200 with two 10 round Magazines.

As far as a Shotgun goes, if you don’t have much experience with them, get yourself a 20 Gauge. Less Recoil than the usual 12 Gauge and the off brand ones are inexpensive. They are the best weapon for Home Defense / Security IMHO.

You will be getting differing opinions here. Some people love Glocks and others just love good old S&W Revolvers.

If you've decided what you like for starters, go for it.

You'll learn in time, these aren't simply a couple of guns that you've chosen. They're the FIRST guns you've chosen.

Get ammo of course, and eye and ear protection, and keep your empties for both the shotgun and the handgun. (Note, some shotgun shells are more reloadable than others, one suggests AA target loads for practice.)

Also you probably won't do this but DON'T store your firearms in a case. The firearms case is for transporting it from one place to another. If you store firearms in the case it will trap moisture next to them, but unpleasant consequences.

Next, get a couple of good .22s - a rifle and a handgun.
