It's probably all these Agitators & Agents from Russia, stranded in the US after the USSR disintegrated, that regrouped to take over the USA. What else would they do? That's what they were trained to do. Gorbachev probably gets Christmas cards from them telling him how their lives are going, and dropping cryptic hints at what they're up to since they were stranded in the USA. Yeah, he knows who they are. First on my radar is Adam Schiff.

Gorbachev is one of the most tragic figures in modern history
He climbed the very dangerous and greasy pole of politics in the Soviet Union. It was a system built on lies, with huge contradictions, and a state that was completely unable and unwilling to change.
He attempted to change the system - stop the lies, resolve some of the contradictions.
But the thing was so rotted, it simply collapsed and events quickly spun out of control
And for the pain that the collapse caused, many people in Russia still hate him.
Someone in the USA will need to play that role also.

You are absolutely correct, but America’s “deep state” can never accept Russia as an partner.
Russia is a military power, it is an energy and resource power. It is huge size. Above all, it wants independence from the US dollar and US hegemony. Moreover, as a Christian nation, that promotes its own culture, language and religion without apology. America’s deep state sees it as a serious existential threat to America’s power.
The USA’s government will have to fundamentally change before anything you suggest can occur.
I know precious little about Gorbachev other than some snippets like Reagan's influence. Reagan showed him New York. But Gorby also visited Rudy Perpich in Minnesota. I'll tell you what, kaehurowing. Those old Soviets were jealous that they didn't have tech. They were looking for a benign socialism. They just don't get it. Sort of like looking for a good bad guy. For sure he wasn't a bad good guy.

Gorbachev wasn’t a bad guy. He was trying to dismantle communism without it collapsing the Soviet Union.
