Last week, Amazon, eBay, and Dr. Seuss Enterprises all stripped six of Seuss’s works from their platforms, canceling the books over claims that the images and descriptions in the books are racist or offensive. This is ever so much more efficient than the old book burning and carbon-neutral too!

Speedy Gonzales was the epitome of Positive Imagery for Mexican people. It's not about that. The racist and sexist left will not be happy until minorities are segregated, packaging is purged of any person of color, cartoons are made white again, and women are subjected to men's sports and bathroom intrusions.
Just like the salad days they remember...

I think Charles Blow should change his name because some people might be offended... :0)

and Mammy Two Shoes, a heavyset Black maid who spoke in a heavy accent.
I have never heard of or seen this cartoon character - and I watched ALL the cartoons as a child.
I too watched every cartoon on TV growing up in the 1950s and have NEVER heard of or seen "Mammy Two Shoes."
I don't remember "Mammy Two Shoes" either. Did this cancel culture guy make her up?

I heard that Speedy Gonzalez is very popular in Latin America. The Latino audience doesn’t care about stereotypes; what matters is that the protagonist is one of them!

My oldest brother had a 1967 23-window, back in the mid-70s, same color as the one in the photo. His didn’t have safari windshields, though. Bet he wishes he’d kept it.
I had a ‘68 van that was destroyed when a tree blew down onto it, and later I had a ‘69 van. I do wish I still had that car. Can’t afford old VWs now.

Mexicans being speedy around noon is hardly a stereotype.

I’ve seen one or two Tom and Jerry episodes where a black woman is in the kitchen yelling at Tom to catch that mouse. Silly me I didn’t know that was racist.

The "Mammy Two Shoes" character appears in many Tom & Jerry cartoons. The problem is that they didn't air those cartoons in the USA for a couple of decades, all due to political correctness.
The thing is that if you watch Tom & Jerry in a foreign country, you see all of the episodes that they wouldn't show here, even in countries with large black populations.
I was a kid, but I remember the character on Tom & Jerry. At the time, to me it was just Tom's owner, and couldn't wait to see how she was going to give Tom a beatdown at the end of the cartoon.
It didn't dawn on me that I had to look at the character in any other way besides that

No, believe it or not, the author didn't make up the character.
The problem is that those T&J cartoons featuring that character were canceled from the airways in the USA, sometime around the 80's (maybe earlier).

I always thought the skunk cartoons sucked. I would turn them off. What eight year old boy wants to see romantic stuff?

What next? Elmer Fudd is a memeber of the “armed right wing milita”? Sometimes I feel like I am back in Junior High School. These people are acting like a bunch of juveniles. Every day there is just more immature crap!
