Not sure about other auto makers, but Ford is moving towards a retail based service, where you order a vehicle with exactly the options you want. I ordered a Ford Maveric in August through one of our Ford dealerships here in Northern Utah! The price for retail orders is just MSRP, with no dealer markups!

(Toyota never gives the Avalon any love).

My youngest son’s Ford dealership has had its biggest year ever selling Ford trucks...

I want (not need) a Ford Maverick. I understand there are over 200,000 preorders. Ford is making them as fast as they can.

A small truck getting around 40 mpg selling in the low 20’s?

Oh yeah.

Is there no place for a non-luxury true full-sized sedan, anymore? I guess not.

You could always settle for the Chrysler 300 and/or the Dodge Charger.

Those dinosaurs have been around for over 15 years with little to no updates.

I don't need "updates" as many of them are either responses to government safety/CAFE regulations or are merely tech baubles.

I will say this about the Chrysler 300C. With the Hemi 5.7 V8...

It was a far better car than the Panthers (Crown Vic, Town Car, Grand Marquis). I owned a Grand Marquis and once had use of a 300C for 2 weeks and I took the Chrysler on a 800 mile road trip. And I just recently took a big road trip in my Grand Marquis.

The Chrysler was better. IMO.

If I were going to buy a big car today, I’d consider a Chrysler.

My fav vehicle the last 20 yrs was the 300M. Not a perfect car..dash cracked same place on many over time. Crappy door locks. BUT, a real nice ride and perfect size. Check the 2000 300M, 20 yrs later it still has classic lines that don’t scream; out of date.

I drove a friend's 300 on a long car pool for three years, but that was a 2011 with the base engine. Adequate.

I owned a '92 Grand Marquis that had engine problems etc from the get go, and finally burned up.

I found the Chrysler less comfortable than the Merc. The 300 took way to much room for the $#^@ center console. I've owned many Chrysler's, and at some point they got really uncomfortable. I rented a Sebring, a Laser and an Avenger. All pretty awful. Oddly, I found the original Viper to be snug but comfortable. The last Chrysler driver I found comfortable was mid-sized M-Body masquerading as a luxury car, the RWD 1989 Chrysler Fifth Avenue, the last V-8 car Chrysler had made for over a decade (318). That model was a barely updated '79 Dodge Diplomat with plusher seats.

The Avalon lacks headroom and trunk, but the 3.5 is more than peppy enough, and Toyota is not as aggressive about adding electronics as some car companies are.

I’ve given up on standard 4 door sedans. I find even the Grand Marquis and Chrysler 300 are too small. I hate how low they are. Climbing up and out of a traditional car is a pain.

I had a Toyota Venza for 8 years. Loved it. Now driving a VW Tiguan. Mid sized SUV crossovers have taken the place of the 4 door family car.

No idea. Not sure what that would do for them. We visited a friend in Prescott, AZ and he put a string of Christmas lights around our vehicle to keep the rats from getting in the engine at night and we were only there for two days. Can’t imagine a vehicle sitting in a lot with 100’s of others for a couple months.

was thinking of seals drying out from not being cranked, but I wonder if they have taken any precautions at all about rodents (noisemakers, poison, etc).

if not, seems like happy times for sr. raton.
