"What was Rudolf Hess really up to?"

Even a greater mystery, who decided he needed to be kept in prison for the rest of his life, ... and why?

...Moulin had been arrested before, but after being tortured in Montluc Prison by the German secret police, he was shipped off to Berlin. He died in route.

Aubrac was arrested along with Moulin but was freed by his wife, Lucie, and their associates. Lucie, who was pregnant at the time, convinced Aubrac’s captors to allow her to marry him in prison so their child was not born illegitimate. They allowed it, and Aubrac escaped. ...

So much about the legends of the French Resistance are so very often "extraordinary." In an era in which pharmacists call themselves heroes (on massive placards now!) I salute those true heroes. Vive la France!

...But I often wonder just how many there were - before the summer of 1945.

By the end of the war it seems and henceforth unto the ends of time EVERYONE was "dans la Resistance."

Another mystery: Why did Japan protect something like 50,000 Jews who were huddled in Japanese-occupied Shanghai, rather than handing them over to the Germans to be ‘processed’, even after Himler made a special trip to Japan to help them deal with their ‘Jewish Problem’?
