Neat idea. Probably not great timing.
I have to wonder if those custom modellers could do an equal or better model than this website is offering for far less than $15,000
In the first three movies it was the NCC - 1701 refit. The A came after Kirk blew it up in The Search For Spock.
Those modelers are really very talented. They spend their time wisely, unlike all of us hanging out of FR. ;-D
Yes the Connie refit is the bomb. But I think my favorite is the Nova class. And then the Miranda class. It has the hunter-killer look to it, which made it perfect as Khan’s ship.
I have a confession to make. I never saw Star Trek until production ended and was picked up in syndication. It aired during my high school years. My parents controlled access to “the tube”, and they thought Star Trek was silly. On a visit home from college I went to a friend’s house and saw a model of the Enterprise. I exclaimed, “Wow! That is cool, what is it?”. My friend’s jaw hit the floor.
There are certain people who love jig saw puzzles, and need a tangible target for all their excess energy.
These are folk who love the challenge of making order out of chaos. Regular puzzles, basic model kits don’t provide the thrill achieved only by some enforced struggle.
Many of these people make good mechanics, software engineers or chemists. I know such people.
I am not impressed at the quality branded for $15k.
It looks home built on a 3D printer.
A bit out of my price range.
I’m going to eventually have to get a 3d printer.
Me too. Just waiting on all of the kinks to be worked out ;^)
Mine too. If I had that to spend, I'd purchase a nice manual vertical milling machine, Bridgeport I presume.
"tough to recover from"
Don’t be surprised….
I had absolutely no idea just how talented some of those model builders are.
I guess I *noticed* the Aztec-ing when I saw the movies, but I didn't pay much attention at the time.
I like some of the retro-fitting of the original NCC-1701 to include it, even though you couldn't possibly see it on a TV screen.
You learn something new every day.
“Nobody would pay $15,000 for a toy...”
You mean like a classic car. I think they do
Classic cars aren’t a toy they are an investment.
That pay off well
Classic cars often lose money. Especially if you sink money into restoration that you never recover. Take it from me. I know. These things are a labor of live. Enjoy them or your enterprise model or an original Winchester 1873 or a 1st or second generation Single Action Army Colt. I have dabbled in everything except an enterprise model.
