Not Cheech and Chong?
Smooth Criminal
I guess thats probably true.
I really liked his stuff from the 70’s through the 80’s. He put on a good show. His music reminds me of good times as a kid.
That said, it’s music to me-and not much more. I believe that stuff like movies and music are about the person watching or listening. The evoke memories and feelings of those times. I did not know the artist or participate in the production—so those people don’t really register much when I am thinking about it.
If he gave a lot to charity, that is fine. I guess he was, at best, a weirdo in his private life. When it comes to listening to his music, that stuff doesn’t really come into the picture.
There was another article today about Oliver Anthony and what kind of person he is. The same thinking applies to him: His words and music touch a note. I honestly don’t think much about the person making the music beyond feelings the music brings.
Our culture is into dissecting people in order to find what is wrong with them. I guess it makes the writers feel more human….and makes the artist seem less “god like.” (My term, no one else’s.)
So, circling back to the original question, I don’t care that he was good with his money and gave to charities. My wife always pointed out to my kids that they should not expect extra credit for doing the right thing. Those of us who are fortunate should try to help others. I don’t expect anyone to raise a statue of me because I gave to charity.
Beat it...
For sure. Music is very much a subjective experience. I suspect most people would be surprised at how ‘weird’ Mozart was... some believe ‘on the spectrum.’ He was also a child prodigy performing in front of emperors and kings, along with his talented sister, at a very young age... also with an overbearing ‘stage father.’ Perhaps weirdness just comes with being a prodigy.
Roseanne Barr famously grabbed her crotch after singing an insultingly bad ‘Star Spangled...’ at a baseball game opening. She is now a darling of the right on Twitter... I think we tend to freeze people into caricatures whereas real people tend to be far more complex.
Someone once said that Michael couldn’t be a pedo, because he watched “Sesame Street”, to which was replied, “Sesame Street is the ‘Playboy Channel’ for pedos.”
Thanks. I remember having that cassette, which I had bought under the impression EVH was playing guitar on the whole album, and riding down the highway in my car with my older brother. I put it on and we listened that song, which was the first, and thought it was ok. Next song or two, he punched the eject button and tossed it out the window LOL. I wasn’t too happy, at first, but it is kinda fun when I look back now.
“but were there any truly great things he did without Quincy Jones?”
He was a good dancer.
How many years do plastic noses last?
State of Shock
(Just kidding!)
Ha. Sweet.
I have always believed that the father was an over baring bastard where Michael was concerned the kid NEVER had a childhood I am probably one of the few that do not believe he was a pedo just screwed up in the head wanting to be a child, just my opinion!! He had SO MUCH talent his father was a TYRANT!!
I can’t stand Michael Jackson. My house is a no Michael Jackson zone.
I do like the Jackson 5.
PedoMichael paid millions to make the pedo charges go away.
Denying MJ was a homosexual pedophile is the same as denying OJ was guilty of a double homicide.
Yep, lots of these youth stars get abused mentally by parents and never recover. Add to that they live lives that have extreme pressure and the influence of millions. It has to be both difficult and enjoyable, but it's not a normal life. In many respects it's just plain tragic. But, he sure was musically talented.
Pedos don’t deserve admiration
Like I said it is MY opinion, you can have any opinion you like, however the way Michael carved up his face ect. there was something so much deeper there, I firmly believe that after his death there would have been a massive amount of people coming forward with accusations of child molestation BUT that did not happen!! So you believe what you like I am entitled to my own opinion!!
