I read his book "The Real Anita Hill" when it was published. It's highly possible he wrote the book for the money, which would mean he was a big, fat phony from the get-go.

According to the article at the link below, he cast his first vote for Jimmy Carter, not Reagan. He went to liberal Berkeley College. He was a student journalist there, and had articles published in the Wall Street Journal, Heritage Foundation’s Policy Review, which led to jobs with the Washington Times, and The Spectator.

I think he was always a liberal who played the game to get ahead in journalism. When he realized he could get more from the left down the road, he decided it was time to make a public move to the left. So in fact, he stabbed the people who had given him his career in journalism, in the back. Liberals are such ingrates.
