I worked on one of these projects in 2012 for about 2 years. It was a lot of fun but the project didn’t go anywhere. Better get my shop cleaned up and call my old contacts.
Hopefully, it has a dedicated dock in the cockpit for an Apple Airtag.
They plan to build just 12, because the nuclear reactor power system will require almost no maintenance, thus, almost no down time. First delivery - late 2020s.
Somehow, for the new subs, USA naval engineers figured out how to generate electricity from nuclear power without using a steam powered turbine system.
That will be an interesting topic to read about in the near future.
Oh, it'll fly somewhere. .just not sure where yet, based on today's mystery flight plan.
For the same price, you can probably build a few million drones.
Lots of research on that here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knolls_Atomic_Power_Laboratory
Good we need one.
“F-35 was never designed or presented as an air superiority fighter”
Yes, it was. Maybe you should read more and think less.
The F-35 was/is a massive failure... may as well spend a trillion or two on 20 years of research for another POS.
Right?! I thought the F-35 was only developed n produced these past 20+ years... geesh
NGAD, aircraft “incorporates lessons learned from recent Air Force acquisition programs and will leverage open architecture standards,”
The Air Force contracting machine has learned NOTHING about controlling cost overruns or holding contractors to their word. Ask me how I know...
Colonel, USAF JAGC (Ret)
current cleared counsel for govt contractors (white and black)
The new fighter will have a homing feature borrowed from cheap personal drones. It will automatically return to base and crash where it can easily be found.
“If they’re already looking for the Next Generation Air Dominance plane, why did they make the F35?”
Two totally different missions.
Just like the F-15 and the F-22 before it, the NGAD’s role is to engage and destroy enemy fighter aircraft through stealth, maneuver, and superior firepower.
The F-35 is designed to use stealth to get in and drop bombs.
Better not lose this one.
No, it wasn’t.
How will it fair when flying through a modern drone swarm?
If it is not pilotless it is obsolete.
With the U.S. economy doing as poorly as it is I’d like to know how we can continue to afford spending trillions of dollars on all of these Fighter planes.
I’m pro Air Force but it seems that the Air Force has spent a serious amount of dollars on the F-35A and the B-21 Bomber.
Where do they think they’re going to get the money for this New Next Generation Fighter?
is the pilot optional???
Or better than that, how will it handle the Tic-Tac UAPs the F-18 Hornets tangled with.
