Good question!
Where do they think they’re going to get the money for this New Next Generation Fighter?
From the money they save by mothballing the F-111.
I don't think so, but there will be a separate contract to purchase 2 yet to be developed UCAV's that will be controlled by each NGAD. There will likely be significant AI, with the UCAVs tasked by the fighter, then acting autonomously from there. The last few batches of F-35 will also control UCAVs.
It probably should have the ability to fly unmanned, since the days of manned fighters are drawing to a close. AI is probably already more capable and reliable than human pilots, and certainly will be by the time NGAD flies.
That missing jet is still in the air. And we can’t track it.
Why? They haven’t finished the last failure. Decades away. It takes them 10 years just to launch a simple trainer. They haven’t even managed a tanker on an existing platform. Losers.
i just figured it’s optional my this Gen
Here's your answer:
The acquisition strategy for the Next Generation Air Dominance, or NGAD, aircraft “incorporates lessons learned from recent Air Force acquisition programs and will leverage open architecture standards”
With an open architecture, the NGAD should be exportable.
The computer system in the F-22, for some unknown reason, did not have an open architecture.
Many of the subsystems in the aircraft were not exportable. The computer architecture made it difficult and very expensive to remove.
My guess is the USAF, initially, did not want the aircraft to be exported.
Based on personal knowledge, the F-35 computer architecture is brilliant.
If a foreign customer wants to incorporate indigenous weapons, it is easily done.
If the USAF wants to remove sensitive subsystems, it is easily done.
Apologies for the slow response. I was web limited for the past 3 weeks.
