… The modernization of our visa system and border security would allow us to accurately track immigration. It would also enable us to let more people in and allow us to admit we are not going to deport the millions of people who are currently here illegally. That bit of doublespeak came out of Rand back in 2013. That’s ten years ago.
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Conservatives, myself included, are wary of amnesty. My plan will not grant amnesty or move anyone to the front of the line.
But what we have now is de facto amnesty.
The solution doesn’t have to be amnesty or deportation—a middle ground might be called probation where those who came illegally become legal through a probationary period.
My plan will not impose a national ID card or mandatory E-Verify, forcing businesses to become policemen.
We should not be unfair to those who came to our country legally. Nor should we force business owners to become immigration inspectors-making them do the job the federal government has failed to do. …
And you failed to acknowledge post 8.
The President has to power to preemptively pardon. Trump failed to preemptively pardon the January 6th protesters.
And beyond that.
Those who falsely imprisoned them and tortured and abused them while in jail must be brought to justice, along with others like Ashli Babbit’s murderer.
Trump could have literally preemptively pardoned the January 6th protesters in the final seconds as president. Thus it wouldn’t come under the purview of an impeachment as Congress would no longer have in personam jurisdiction over Trump.
LOL, the only publications that acknowledge the so-called “preemptive pardon” are all liberal.
Proof by assertion.
Stop reading the NY Slimes so much.
Maybe the next repeat response will be in all caps. That should make it more authoritative.
Andrew Johnson issued preemptive pardons. So did Gerald Ford. So did George H.W. Bush.
According to whom?
Pardoning former Confederates was not preemptive, particularly after much evidence of actually being at war. Proof by assertion again.
bttt
Please provide the precedence of past POTUS’ who have preemptively pardoned unknown entities who were held without being charged.
Thank you.
What were the circumstances?

Yeah right! All these people were charged with a crime except a few politicians.
You speak nonsense.
“ Powell, however, said that preemptive pardons for which the crime is not clear can be “tricky,” because they must be specific enough about the conduct in question that a court down the line can determine its scope.
“There is no entire get out of jail free card,” Powell said.”
You’re violating the Law of holes.
I want heads to roll. Literally.
ALL J6 prisoners are political prisoners.
More BS from Ron Paul (2009):
“Ron Paul does interview with Iranian state TV, bashes Israel, defends Hamas”

No wonder people believe Trump could have pardoned them but didn’t that’s what the fake news out there leads one to believe. Dates and details don’t count for some people just flashy headlines. The riot was Jan 6, Trump left the White House on Jan 20. I think a total of 13 were arrested just before Trump left. I had a whole list of names and dates but can’t find it right now.
