I still have a digital box tv in a rarely ysed bedroom. Plays old stuff really well and HDTV isn’t bad on it, just not formatted right.
Had a washer lid lock break. The repairman quoted $500. I asked why it needed to lock and he said it was a child protection thing.
For $50 he disconnected it.
Oh, I have a flatscreen DTV and have been off satellite since Romney took a dive. Digital Television can be great quality of image and sound. The Broncos are fun to watch, the few times they’re on. But, the advertisements are plentiful and loathsome. It’s better to watch DVDs or downloaded MP4 files.
It is getting really hard to get a composite RCA input, which is the best I can get for my old laserdisc player. I should have kept a tube TV I had with S-Video, but the weight of the flatscreens for the size is much better.
I used to like Stereophile Magazine and the like, but everything has gravitated to only the junk that China can produce.
planned obsolescence is a big part of it. It’s good for corporations if we have to replace the item every 2-5 years instead of 10-15 years.
