[Soaring Feather]

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and I...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

How To Do Poetry?

How does one create a poem, a loving artwork of entwined words that sing,
and keep it all so relevant, with not a nugatory phrase along the way?
Open your senses, and see the world from every angle, let its nuances ring,
and let each find its place inside your own mind, until they say what they will say.

Love each word for its quiet majesty, its unique place under the sun,
holding to one place, with which you will struggle to find another to entwine.
To capture a feeling, an ideal, a bit of memory on parade, sad or fun,
and bind it into a story as it were, to share with anyone who reads those lines.

Let the words fill you, find your center, and they will write the poem with your pen,
and along the way you will discover their magic growing softly in you.
Don’t I say write for others, but only for yourself, for that is what a poets been,
a vessel holding the magic, and as surprised and in wonder as the reader in review.

Be not afraid to try, for along the way, they will rise in you and flow,
into forms and shape your thoughts with gentle care, sweet partnership.
Open your heart and soul, and let the words so softly take control and go,
and along the way, you will discover that you too have authorship.

It is your heart, your trials and tribulations, your life that make the words,
and it is your soul that will shape them into the poems, a part of you.
Let them fly as they will like to heights you can not reach, your verbal birds,
flying across the sky of a world only you have ever seen or know as you do!

Memories, pressed between the pages of my mind
Memories, sweetened thru the ages just like wine

Quiet thought come floating down
And settle softly to the ground
Like golden autumn leaves around my feet
I touched them and they burst apart with sweet memories,
Sweet memories

Of holding hands and red bouquets
And twilight trimmed in purple haze
And laughing eyes and simple ways
And quiet nights and gentle days with you

You have lots of snow? We have about 8 to 10 inches here from yesterday?

We had almost a foot, but it kinda compacted and congealed down into an icy glop that covers everything.
Thankfully, it was almost entirely shoveled off before it congealed where we don't need it.

We hit -30 air temperature this morning. All the schools are out for the day and may not get above zero - high or low - until Sunday.

Cry and you cry alone? I would have said that before I came here. On the nights I cry, I know at least I'm not by myself. :)

Yeah, we cry together don't we? And write beautiful verse while we sob our hearts out.

The temperature outside is fifteen below
the pager sounds and I must go.

A fire burns and the heat is nice
but the cold turns the hoses and water to ice.



Icicles form and hang from my helmet
and the Red Cross Coffee truck is not here yet.



More and more water is sprayed, its all we can do,
and now the building begins to look like an igloo



Winter firefighting can be extreme to the max
and we chip the ice of the hydrant with an axe.



I find refuge in a building next door
I take my coat of and stand it on the floor.

Slipping a sliding, the streets like a rink
and the cold is making it hard to think



After it's over we finally head back
to a warm fire station and a good sized snack

Not in terms of your job, of course. I have a number of friends who are firefighters and they tell me it's just miserable in the wintertime.

My thermometer said -15 this a.m. It's supposed to be colder tonight, and even colder on Friday night.

Yes, I'm an avid "Emergency" fan... hence the nickname.

It is. While I'm not a "full-timer" it's still just as miserable.. LOL
