Why should good and innocent people do not deserve RIP? why? We need a change on this. Pleasing the enemy (bad guys) is the equivalent of murdering your own people.

Did it ever occur to you that there are people out there who donate their bodies to science, so that places like this can scientifically determine exactly the time of death of adiscovered, decomposed corpse, by the life cycle of the insects that feed on dead flesh.

The science developed at that facility has helped convict murderers, thereby saving lives.

Matter of fact, I may just donate my corpse, if you don't mind.

Unclaimed body, young and old, men and women, placed in various places inside his so-called farm allow them to decay and consumed by various insects. The maggots will consume a human body in just one day, he said in smile. Dr. Bill Bass is an anthropologist, he dedicated himself for this type of research.

But... WHY????

(and a supersize "eeeeww" for good measure.)

Right, that's what I get for not having three cups of coffee and reading the comments (which were far more informative than the article) before FReeping.

I believe that there is such a "farm" used to research how long a human body takes to decay under various conditions and circumstances. That information is used by criminologists to help determine how long a person has been dead (if the body is in advanced stages of decay, so that it's far more difficult to determine time of death) and so may help solve the murder.

What you say has been explained to old one-eye over and over, and yet his responses are just redundant reiterations of his original post. He's a fraud, IMHO.

I've seen this 'farm' on one of the education channels, History or Discovery or some such.

The corpses are scientifically examined in every stage of decomposition. The results of this research are used in criminal investigation, and in the courts.

It's nasty, but it serves a legitimate purpose.

Don't feel so bad. You weren't the only one.
(No, hang on - I DID read the article, just not the comments - which is where the real knowledge lay in this thread. That article told me precisely stuff-all.)

Eggs...I dunno..see his reply to me in #19. Very weird. And dis-jointed reply. Kinda creepy. Similar to the P-Montague (sp?) when he starts his rants.

I saw Beethoven in there and asked him what he was doing. "Decomposing," he said.

As a University of Tennessee student, I am outraged at your comments.

First of all, Knoxville, is not some "sleepy Tennessee town." It's a mid-sized city of several hundred thousand people.

The "body farm" as it's known, largely because of the book by Patrica Cornwell, is an important, world-reknown research center. The FBI trains here regularly. Dr. Bass is one of the most respected forensic scientists in the world, and UT is very lucky to have him.

The bodies that they use are very respected. They are either people that donate their bodies to the project specifically, or are unclaimed ones. They are put in a variety of situations to so forensic scientists can understand when a person died, what killed them, etc. when a body is discovered in the elements.

This "crime against humanity" has solved hundreds of crimes, and helped put many criminals behind bars. I suggest you actually do a little thing called a google search before you post such a ludicrous and uninformed post again.

However, I suppose if you or one of your family members was brutally killed and left in the elements, you'd prefer the police to not use any of the important information gleaned from these facts because Dr. Bass and not the murderer deserves to "burn in hell."

I may disagree with you on this. We should view human beings, dead or alive as human entity, not objects.

If myself or a family member is murdered in a violent crime. It's the criminal who deserves his/her body used for this experiment, not good human being who did NOT commit this crime.

If Dr. Bass insists to use someone else body to gather his facts for me. I would say NO to that. Why should I harm someone who has nothing to do with the murderer. That's my thinking.

We should teach people to be good Christian so they will not commit violent crime and this thing is un-necessary.

That's what I thought, too. Maybe. Altho the description here seems rather lacking to make it clear. I'm also sure some of the corpses are deliberately willed to it, just like MEDICAL LABS. So don't get all bent-out-of-shape.

BTW, this comes from a person involved in protecting burial sites, so it's not like I'm totally disinterested. You'd be surprised just how much abuse and neglect the "resting places" take, apparently!
