MTV Begins Casting On Super-Hero Reality Show (Dateless Losers In Spandex, Displaying "Powers")

Ready to take your fandom to the next level? MTV has opened applications for a new reality show, the premise of which will involve a group of fans who have designed their own super hero characters. Here’s the rub though – the finalists will live together in a house as their hero, and compete against celebrity villains for the grand prize – having their character published in a comic book. According to the production company, a “Legendary Comic Book Creator”

As the production company is being mum about further details, it’s unclear if this show is the previously announced teaming of Stan Lee (who would fit the “Legendary Creator” slot) and Bruce Nash. News of that show broke in the trades in March of 2003.

Each week on the show, contestants will be pitted against villains in tests of their “super powers.”

The show will be casting in Los Angeles, and will shoot in February. Fans of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities and personalities are sought.

More information, and an application, can be found at: http://www.whowantstobeasuperhero.tv/ .

so you DC or Marvel?

Both; but primarily '60s and '70s (Silver and bronze Ages), due to my advanced years... "Mockingbird." :)

I was giving some thought to the lack of videos being played on MTV and VH1 the other night when I caught a few seconds of yet another countdown show about videos (this one, I believe, was about video cliches in Metal videos).

Over the past 10 or 20 years popular music (regardless of genre) has been a rapidly evolving beast where bands and music styles come and go in a year's time when it once took five or 10 years for similar changes.

I think the music industry can't keep up with the demand that music television has put on the performers. They've got to have new videos, new songs, new albums (CDs), new faces, and they've got to have it yesterday.

A radio station can play a song multiple times all day long (as long as the song is good), because of the listening trends of its audience. But a television station can't play the same video repeatedly in one day, it will lose viewership. So they've got to come up with other stuff: Road Rules, countdown shows, The Real World. Now, rather than playing music videos, they're in the business of putting on television shows that will get them ratings.

I'm indifferent to it because I wouldn't watch the videos any more than I watch the stoopid shows, but I do like "Best Week Ever."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! They may - MAY - put one fat person in the mix just to have someone to humiliate. Everyone else will be physically perfect.

I think the country music industry would disagree. There are two full time country music video channels (GAC and CMT) that do play videos almost all day long.

I only get CMT, but if you've noticed in the last few months there have been fewer videos and an increasing number of countdown and even reality shows. I was very disappointed when this started because I enjoyed CMT as background noise.

And modern superhero rock and roll from:

The Go-Nuts:

Oddball Comics - The Craziest Comics Ever Published! - by Scott Shaw!

“Plump Lump”? “Black Whack”? “Ticklepuss”? Holy Innuendo! Y’know, even without the startling image of that gigantic phallic object protruding between Herbie’s – I mean, the Fat Fury’s – leotard-wearing legs, the sheer sexual inferences of the phrases on this comic’s cover would place this comic deep in Oddball territory!

There’s no denying that ACG’s HERBIE may very well be the single oddest Oddball Comic book series ever published... < /excerpt >

Dear MTV:

Here's how you can return to your former glory in only three easy steps:

Step 1= Dump this "reality TV" garbage and your moronic "Rock the Vote" shenanigans; nobody wants to watch idiotic nobodies mugging for the camera just because it's cheaper to produce than a REAL show.

Step 2=Bring back your amazing animation department from the 90's; Hell, just bring back Liquid Television, Beavis and Butthead and Aeon Flux.

Step 3= Resume airing ACTUAL MUSIC VIDEOS, not this p***y TRL crap. Start with Headbanger Ball.

When you have returned to your former glory, I will return to your programming. Thanx.

-Signed, A former MTV viewer who'd rather watch grass grow than another episode of "Road Rules".
