Okay, so I'm doing my nightly FReeper thing, reading new posts, visiting the threads that I've been pinged to, etc..etc. Nothing new, I've been doing this for several years now, pretty much on a daily basis. I don't start too many threads (because frankly, nobody really wants or needs my 2 cents).
But tonight I've had it. I can't bite my tongue any more. I've got to vent.
Why are there A LOT of Freepers who insist on commenting on topics that they have no idea what the hell they're talking about?
I just got done reading the thread about the Rush Limbaugh spoof on Saturday Night Live last night vis a vis The Drudge Report Story. There were something like 70+ posts on the thread: (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1304821/posts) And it's clearly obvious that maybe three posters had actually scene the SNL sketch in question.
I love the fact that everybody is free to their opinion, but geez...why must a thread about a TV show be clogged up with self righteous after self righteous claiming that they haven't seen SNL in 20 years, or some even claiming that they don't even bother watching TV.
Good for you!! Great! I don't freakin' care if you do or not. Why are you bothering posting on a TV related thread of you're so above the mighty idiot box?
Or, for that matter, the people who claim that SNL isn't as funny now as it was when Belushi, Chase, Akroyd, or whoever was on it. Boo yah! I don't have time to participate in what was. I didn't watch SNL then, I barely watch it now.
Of the 70+ posts on the thread maybe a dozen were actually about the event in question. And those all seemed to say the same thing: The producers of that particular animated segment bashed both sides pretty evenly.
Yeah, I agree it's pretty insane that a show that has had the drug abusers and drug ODs that SNL has would poke fun at Rush's drug problem. (I actually thought the skit was pretty outdated, Rush's drug probelm was last years news.) But I understand why one of the NBC execs would be pretty outraged and that is somewhat newsworthy. (Though, it being on Drudge I wonder how newsworthy it really is.)
But that's not the first time I've seen crap like this happen... and it's happening with more and more frequency on FR. People totally out of the loop offering their opinion without knowing any of the facts.
There was a thread earlier today about California Employee's retirement system. I'm getting slammed in there because of a posters idea of what the FEDERAL retirement system is. No where that I saw did anybody start talking about the Federal... I was talking about California as that is what experience I have, and that's what the blessed article was about.
But nobody reads any more. They see a headline, they have their 2 cent opinion, and they post it.
Where's the critical thinking process at? It's lacking in the threads I'm reading. (And if it's on the threads I'm not reading, I apologize for not knowing it.)
If I didn't know better I'd think DU was sending very well disguised trolls over, just to water down everything.
Okay, I guess I'm done ranting now. Flame away, I can take it.
It's seen.
/grammar police mode
I was gonna reply but I don't know a damn thing about what you just posted.
You are completely wrong. Toilet paper should drop down from the side of the roll toward you, not the one away from you.
I have no idea what I'm talking about, but I felt like responding.
I guess you're flaming me, LOL.
See tagline.
If so, well...boo hoo.
There, I hope you feel better. :)
If you think the SNL thread was bad, you should check out the Rumsfeld threads. It is getting truly ridiculous.
They do it just to piss you off.
Maybe you should try Krusgnet. They don't comment at all on this kind of thing on Krusgnet.
I'd like to think that everything I post is insightful and brilliant, but sometimes I am guilty as charged.
Touché.
I agree with your sentiments, as of late. But, I don't post as much as I used to. I AM still learning from FR, though. There are some great minds here, who have a lot of wisdom to share. Maybe take a break?
bummer... i was too irritated to check that closely.
I never even read the entirety of your post, but I say 'B*llsh*t'!
If folks only commented on what they actually had a well-founded opinion on, it would be pretty slim pickings for those of us who like to interact with the uninformed in an instructive way.
Evil triumphs when good men do (or say) nothing.
Its a rapid response soundbite world. No time to reed, no time to theenk, no time to spel chek.
I've got good news.
I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to GEICO!
Does this mean we can't comment on things we know nothing about?....drats!
I think so. But, it is also a busy weekend, with Christmas arriving. Many, many freepers are off doing other things, so maybe the conversation lags a little?
Could you be more specific please?
I am most entertained by ill-informed posts/posters. I wouldn't want that to change.
I just want it to be known that the SNL writers recently stole one of my ideas for a sketch. Seriously. You can read about it here: http://www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/r/c/rcs8/newstories.htm#December%203,%202004
It sounds like posters here just want to make comments, their two cents, if you will, on threads. Oh no! Why, that's just terrible, isn't it? What is this, a discussion forum? Say it isn't so!
OK, no more sourcasm from me. I think most posters think they're adding to the thread by their comments. Don't like 'em? Don't read 'em.
Posts like this piss me off more than when a moose bit my sister....
GGGRRRROOOOWWWWLLLLLLLLLLLL hehehe....sorry I couldn't help it.
Well the problem is ( and this isn't limited to FR, it's boards of all political stripes) is that there's a significant portion of the population that gets almost sexual pleasure out of being offended. They love being offended and outraged; it makes them feel noble. They'll seek out things to be offended by. They'll even INVENT things to be offended by.
They'll not let facts get in the way of being offended and outraged, either.
Other things that people find really pleasurable:
1) Predicting something bad will happen and having that bad thing happen
2) Having something bad happen and have the perpetrators be from whatever group they really dislike
A lot of people won't let facts get in the way of attempting to experience the joy of these either.
I saw a moose once...
RANDOM
LOL!
:-)
Sorry, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
You're right. I think it was Lazamataz whose tagline read: (LAZAMATAZ...POSTING BEFORE READING THE ARTICLE SINCE 1999!).
Amen. You must be my twin. Way too many people around here think they're an expert on every friggin' thing that comes down the pike. < /rant > Now, me, on the other hand...
Would you like me to ping you when I post?
If this sets you off, I hope your wife hides the guns!!!
I actually read the SNL/Limbaugh article, and responded with my thoughts. Do you have a problem that? Just wondering what your posting guidelines are, so I can follow them....LOL
Bottom line, FR is a place to express your opinion, good, silly, bad, or indifferent. That's what's so great about it, and why it's the only site I visit.
If I see a thread I may not like, I just don't click on it. It's that simple, actually. Try to grasp the concept.
Just do what I'm doing: Ignore the whole da*n thread.
Keep hitting refresh...and wait will someone inevitably posts an article from the Onion. And some here will take it as gospel. Those threads are hilarious.
Even if you have a cat?
I was only pulling your chain. bear!
I agree with you. ;^)
I dunno, I missed that thread....
