IMO, The Outlaw Josey Wales should be much higher on the list...best antihero ever with an exceptionally strong supporting cast..*now spits*

What provoked us to see it was seeing (and greatly enjoying) the more recent Hero. Have you?

Loved "Breakheart Pass". But it has the kind of surprise ending that only allows you to see it once.
Another great western like that is the Henry Fonda/Joanne Woodward film, "A Big Hand for The Little Lady". Classic stuff.

When his young sidekick wants to bury the dead bad guys, Clint deadpans, "the buzzards gotta eat too". Then lays a pint of snoose on the cadaver's forehead. Classic

I'm not much of a fan of westerns, but I loved "Silverado".

I'm not a Shane fan for some reason; too mushy for my tastes. Though I do like the Gregory Peck movie where his son has a pet dear.

"The Bad, the Bad and the Bad" has no business in first place. C'mon, nearly 27,000 voters can't be wrong when they ranked it the #19 movie of all time in any genre. (See the rankings.) But honestly, I love The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. I think it has suffered from years and years of holiday repeats on television, or distaste for Clint Eastwood's politics, or something. But it is by far the best western on that list, one of my favorites, and one of the better movies ever made.

Or Chief Dan George during the Comanchero showdown "Now spit."
Wait a minute....it's not a western...it's a baseball film.

I can't believe there has been no mention of "The Professionals." Come on, Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, Woody Strode, Jack Palance, Robert Ryan and a young Claudia Cardinale. Not the best western ever, definately a top tenner.
