Thousands March in Growing French Protests

PARIS (Reuters) - Some 210,000 public sector workers marched through French cities on Thursday in widening protests over pay, reforms and job cuts that have sent a sharp warning to President Jacques Chirac's conservative government.

On the third day of protests, some schools closed because of a one-day strike by teachers, and a stoppage by air traffic controllers grounded flights at Bordeaux in western France.

The protests followed a warning strike by rail workers that severely disrupted rail traffic across France on Wednesday and protests by energy and postal workers earlier this week.

Unions said 50,000 had joined a protest march that snaked noisily through Paris, though police put the number at 20,000.

"I'm protesting against the quasi-reforms the government is carrying out. They're killing the public services. It has to stop. Soon there'll be nothing left," said Lionel Reinisch, 35, a civil servant from the Paris suburb of Creteil.

Nationally, police said some 210,000 had taken part in protests, more than the 203,700 claimed by the CGT union.

Lesson for the day -- Human History:

Division of the human family into two distinct political groups began
some 12,000 years ago. Humans existed as members of small bands of
nomadic hunter/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains in the
summer & would go to the beach & live on fish & lobster in winter.

The two most important events in all of history were the invention of
beer & the invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to
the beer. These were the foundation of modern civilization & together
were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct
subgroups: Liberals & Conservatives.

Once beer was discovered it required grain & that was the beginning of
agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor alumin um can were invented
yet, so while our early human ancestors were sitting around waiting for
them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how
villages were formed.

Some men spent their days tracking & killing animals to B-B-Q at night
while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known
as "the Conservative movement".

Other men who were weaker & less skilled at hunting learned to live
off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly B-B-Q's & doing the
sewing, fetching & hair dressing.  This was the beginning of the
Liberal movement. Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into
women. The rest became known as 'girleymen'.

Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of
cats, the trade union, the invention of group therapy & group hugs &
the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat &
beer that conservatives provided.

Over the years conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest,
most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are
symbolized by the jackass.

Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer
white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their
beef well done. Sushi, tofu, & French food are standard liberal fare.
Another interesting revolutionary side note: most of their women have
higher testosterone levels than their men.

Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers
in
Hollywood & group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the
designated hitter rule because it wasn't "fair" to make the pitcher
also bat.

Conservatives drink domestic beer and eat red meat & potatoes.
Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks,
construction workers, medical doctors, firemen, police officers,
corporate executives, soldiers, athletes & generally anyone who works
productively outside government. Conservatives who own companies hire
other conservatives who want to work for a living.

Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to "govern" the
producers & decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe
Europeans are more enlightened than Americans.  That is why most of the
liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming to America
They crept in after the Wild West was tame & created a business of
trying to get MORE for nothing.

Here ends today's lesson in world history.

To: Mo1; All

Here's my Inaugural Parade action report folks.

First, we were not with the FReepers at their assigned location. We received an open house invitation in a building along Pennsylvania Ave. We arrived there early, easily going through only one check point. Surprisingly easily...hmmm.

Anyway, we hob-nobbed, watched the swearing in ceremony on the TV's they had set up, had a nice lunch, enjoyed ourselves. The fire alarm went off in the building and everybody started calmly walking down the stairs but a maintenance person came and told us it was a false alarm. We went back to our spots along the windows.

It seemed the parade got off to a late start. In our view over to the left we could tell was a designated protest areas. Here are a few of the signs (typical, stupid stuff):

1. "I masterminded 9-11 and thanks to George W. Bush, all I got is away with it." --Osama bin Ladin (This won poorest grammar award from our group)

2. " I can't stand 4 more minutes!" (BWAHAHAHA!!)

3. "4 More Year = 4 More Wars (boring!)

4. Buck Fush (rolling eyes here)

5. I"m freezing because I care." LOL

6. "I voted for Kerry, now I'm holding this eff'in sign! (BWAHAHA!)

The police were shoulder to shoulder guarding these people who were out along the streeet. However our building was right next to a check point area and some of the idiots were right below our window behind the wire screens. Either they didn't go through the check point or they weren't allowed into the main parade area and were kept behind the fence. There were probably about 70 people down there the vast majority about age 16. They pulled over a parking meter, tried to bait the riot police by pushing on the fence sections and they burned 2 flags. Unfortunately they didn't ignite themselves in the process. Standing right at the window, I gave them the "L" for Loser sign and Mr. Prairie (who was more upset about it all that I'd expected him to be) gave them a different sign once or twice.

The biggest thing to know is that after the President's motorcade when by, the vast majority of the "protestors" in that area went home. We had the opportunity to let them see our "L" for Loser signals some more as hundreds were let out at the check point right by where we were. But for the wonderful bands, floats, horses etc. they didn't give a fig about any of that of course.

In addtion to the police lining the street about every 5 yards there were Marines interpersed with the police. Whenever a flag or the Presidents motorcade came by the Marines came to attention and saluted. Naurally.

It was a fun day, we are back at hotel to get ready for the ball. I've been asked to post this on a couple of threads. I didn't see too many people waving flags, but that could have been because of concern about bringing them through the check points. There were flags along the parade route.

Unfortunately, it's Newsmax only. But what do you expect from the MSM?
