Ignoring Details, lies, and distractions

By Amin Emilio Aun Joven

I like the line from the movie Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace; the one where Qui Gon Jin says to the chosen one: “Live in the moment…your focus determines your reality.” What he meant by that is to block out bullshit you have to focus on what is relevant to your immediate goals. You’ve all heard the famous saying “the devil is in the details.” Well if that’s true then where oh where are the angels, gods, and heavens? Very simple, let me answer this question for those unaware by finishing the quote and remaking it correctly. Now listen closely to what I say in this poem:

What Is, Was, and always Will Be

The devils, hells, and demons are in the lies, details, and distractions.

The gods, heavens, and angels are in the truths, whole, and focus.

Evil is the ignorance and misunderstanding we have from madness.

Good is the knowledge and wisdom we gain from myth.

Evil is chaos.

Good is balance.

Life is good. Life is myth.

What does that mean exactly? This is very simple to understand if you know what you’re looking for. You can apply this poem in a multitude of ways and in a multitude of professions, especially in writing. Think of the truths as everything relevant and useful to your life. The whole is the grand scheme of things, the way things work; the path of life. The focus is what your goals are in life, the tasks you set before yourself to accomplish before you leave this earth. Have you ever listened to a movie with audio but no video? Some pity the blind but they neglect to mention that the blind are blessed because they can hear clearly. They don’t suffer what others suffer, which is of being distracted by details in movies: the scenery, the location, the colors, the designs, and the people afar in perspective who are of little to no importance. Their hearing is what they see, because with hearing you know what is actually moving around you, the path of things so to speak. You will only hear what is really happening, what actions are actually taking place, you won’t see a detail as the whole, which is the pitfall that some of us make when analyzing movies. Now apply this to everything bad around you, how do you stay with the angels, gods and heavens?

Focus on what is relevant to your immediate goals. Once the immediate goals have been accomplished, move on to the next set of immediate goals.

Let me give you an example of this, say you’re ordering a sandwich. Your immediate goals when you go to order a sandwich at whatever place you go to is to get the sandwich, buy it, eat it, leave, and move on. When you order a sandwich you have to wait in line, so you have to do something relevant to your immediate goals while waiting. The action that you should pay attention to is the making of the sandwiches that happens before your eyes. Focus on that. Stay still, don’t move when you don’t need to, don’t look at what you don’t need to. And eventually the background details will die out. I don’t listen to garbage, I don’t have to. And neither should you.

But what if your future spouse, friend or employer is in line? You lose the opportunity to watching a frigg’n sandwich being made.

Sometimes focusing on goals are what we need, especially if we’re feeling distracted, but sometimes our goals are dependent on our opportunities.

Regards…
