Armstrong to seek 7th straight Tour win

PARIS (AP) - There's no stopping Lance Armstrong at six when seventh heaven beckons.

The only six-time winner of the Tour de France ended speculation that he would skip cycling's most prestigious race by announcing on Wednesday he'll be back this July in France for another bite of the cherry.

Armstrong's 2005 race schedule "will include this summer's Tour de France where he will go for a seventh straight victory," said his Discovery Channel team's Web site.

The American will be nearly 34 — too old, surely, to win the grueling three-week race again? But doubters said that last year, too, only for Armstrong to crush younger competitors with arguably his most dominant Tour de France performance ever.

Time will tell whether Armstrong can become as fired up about winning seven as he did to clinch record No. 6.

But he had already said that if he did come back, he would aim for nothing but victory. He says he loves the classic race too much to treat it with anything less than the respect it deserves.

I thought he was banned from cycling. I heard during the last Tour De France French Officials found illegal substances in his hotel room ... soap, shampoo, and toothpaste.

LOL.

If Lance doesn't stop partying around with his singer girlfriend Whazhername, he won't be in shape to win again. I think that being in the spotlight with her has gone to his head. He thinks he's a rock star now, his ego has taken over, which does not bode well for further cycling wins.

Whatever happened to his wife and son?

They are better off without him. He showed his true colors dumping the woman who saw him through cancer only to have him drop her when she asked him to spend more time with his family.

I think this will be his "run one too many race", sad. I would retire while on top, nobody will ever touch his record, let it go.

I agree. I was a huge Lance fan and read his book. I thought it was odd when he wrote about breaking up with the woman who stuck with him through cancer, but I figured that maybe the chemistry just wasn't there, and besides, they weren't married.

But when he divorced his wife in order to party with famous singers I realized that my misgivings were correct. Lance is a bad role model.

Word to Lance...take your 7th TdF and your Lib girlfriend and get lost, no one cares anymore.

BTW, I am glad he beat his cancer.

If you read the book, he was seeing a different girl during his cancer than the one he married. He met Kristen after the cancer because she worked for the company who was helping him start his foundation. In addition he did not meet Sheryl Crow (who is pretty hot imho) until after his divorce. Not saying that he didn't cheat with another woman to cause the divorce, but it wasn't Miss Crow.
