PC Problem - Help Needed

I use Microsoft as my Internet browser.

recently, I went into Internet Options.

I delete cookies and files. I go in and wipe out clear out History...

...but I still keep seeing internet sites that I THOUGHT I'd previously deleted up in the browser line. For example, Free Republic shows up in my browser as I start to type in its address. It automatically fills in.

What the hell am I not doing correctly?!

Go to TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS and click on the "ADVANCED" tab. Scroll about halfway down and uncheck the box that reads: Use inline AutoComplete. Then, scroll to the bottom and check the box that reads: Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed. Click "apply" and then "OK". You're good to go.

I just did what you said, however, my problem is different, when I click on brouse on FreeRepublic it keeps going back to 2/22/05, just like Ground Hog Day, I can't get past 2/22/05. Only when I click on home and articles can I get recent info. Jim tried to help me, I spent several hours on the phone with Bellsouth, but I seem to be stuck in 2/22/05? Any ideas?

Forget everyone who tells you to get Firefox. They just want to keep the keys to data access out of the hands of consumers while calling it "economic democracy." If you're a consumer Microsoft loves you.

I am assuming you stopped the sharing feature with Microsucks that comes with your computer.

Go to disk cleanup. Use it. Before that, as others have said, go to tools. Then options, then clear everything from there.

Do cleanup and then defrag. End of problem. Get a sweeper program as well if you want to be perfect. Spy Sweeper is OK but you can search c-net if you want something different.

I like Zone Alarm as well but some folks can't seem to configure it. That's because they are stupid. Do all this and you should be good to go.

If not, nuke your damn drive and start over using the above info.

Maybe, but why should it require the level of skill necessary to maintain a proxy server in order to delete the internet caches of everyone on a network? Lot's of small businesses can't afford to hire full time Microsoft certified IT people.

That is really odd.
I'm pretty sure it must be a conflict between FR's code and your browser.

Try downloading and runnig MS Antispyware beta and running, then run Advanced and Erase History.

Download a utility called TweakIt UI. It's a control Panel App that has options to erase your IE history and MRU (Most Recently Used) list every time you shutdown. I'll leave it to you to find it, the hunt for serendipitous knowledge will do you good.

Starting at the beginning...........Nope, I can click on to Freerepublic and go to post articles....... I can get up to date info, if I read an article and at the end click on brouse, it goes back to 2/22/05, what ever stories were posted then? I can't directly click on Freerepublic and be logged in like I used to, if I want to answer an article I have to log in??? I have given up and accepted the fact that I am stuck in 2/22/05 on freerepublic.

So? I contacted my isp, via email. They want me to open the emails, copy them and send them a PHOTO ID OF MYSELF!

I think that the folks who mentioned the AutoComplete function are probably on the right track.

Looks like you haven't updated your browser in a while. More on that in a second. You can delete the files by going through the same steps as before except click on "Settings" then "View Files". Now go to Edit and choose "select all" then go to File and choose "delete". What happens is your computer stores little records of the pages your looking at. Over time this gets to be a lot of junk and it can slow things down. Also, your computer will sometimes show those pages according to the info stored. You can always "refresh" everything by pushing "F5" if you want to.

Now to the updating. You may want to do this when your done working on the computer because it can take a while to download:

You can update it by going to TOOLS > WINDOWS UPDATE. Just follow the instructions from there.

Firefox stinks for image files, however, and since I pretend to be a photographer, I had to dump it. It is not the all powerful solution, yet.
