Help shut down anti-Christian, anti-Semetic site...

Posted on 03/10/2005 8:49:17 AM PST by MrEPoster

Help me shut down this anti-Christian, anti-Semetic site on MSN. The management there silences anyone that disagrees with their anti-Christian, anti-Semetic message.

Here's the site: http://groups.msn.com/whatisyourpoint2/general.msnw?action=get_threads

Check out these threads, and you will see what I mean: http://groups.msn.com/whatisyourpoint2/general.msnw?action=get_message&mview=0&ID_Message=22756&LastModified=4675512655268494628

and:

http://groups.msn.com/whatisyourpoint2/general.msnw?action=get_message&mview=0&ID_Message=22519&LastModified=4675510412477670721

Thanks.

We really shouldn't try to silence people that offend us. That's what the Libs do. Just let them go ahead and make idiots of themselves.

I see plenty of dissenting views there.

Who is silencing? MSN?

I agree with CrippleCreek. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Let them spew. Keep it open.

Also, there is this little thing called the first amendment.

Sorry - I'm not in favor of silencing those who think differently, as long as their expressions are non-violent.

It's not your site, you have no say in it's operations.

If you have a problem with that, then start your own site and scream your head off about how bad they are.

Sometimes it makes more sense to let people spew their stuff on their own site and let the Noam Chomsky types reveal themselves.

And other times it calls for bunnies wearing pancakes, lightning, and artillery.

Sometimes it calls for both.

Sometimes it calls for wisdom and research into why a site exists, it's history, and what the 'rules of the road' are on the site.

Yeah, I'm new. If you read my post, you will see that I don't like censorship, which is why I'd like the site engaging in it be shut down. That site has banned half a dozen people in the last week, and not a one of them were posting the offensive anti-Christian and anti-Semetic stuff. in fact, they were the ones that were countering it.

If you don't want to help, that's fine, but don't ascribe a pro-censorship label on me.

What does the "PING" mean?

AND they get to ban who they want.

There is no law that says they have to indulge opposing viewpoints on their web site. Free Republic bans people who come over here and spew the Democratic talking points. We call them "trolls." Democratic Underground has banned many FReepers who go over to their site and do the same thing.

If someone wants to start an anti-Christian, anti-Semetic website and ban people who wish to debate them, that is their right in the everything-goes world of the internet.

Trying to get sites shut down because you do not agree with what they say or because they refuse to allow you to debate them is not something that those who value freedom will defend. It is fascist behavior more common to the Left than here.

This was not the reason I posted, and I don't want to get off-topic, but your post confuses me.

On the one hand you say: "Free Republic bans people who come over here and spew the Democratic talking points", but then when you talk of trying to get sites shut down you say: "It is fascist behavior more common to the Left than here."

I'm not trying to be confrontational, I truly am not, but is the distinction here that the board has the right to allow whatever speech they want, and the right to censor whoever they want, but we have no right to try and shut them down?

I'm pretty sure the First Amendment extends to me as well as the managers of this or any other board. They have the right to censor and ban as much as they want, and I have every right to protest it. Nobody else has to, I just wondered if I could get some help. Apparently not.

I guess I'm just a little more offended by that anti-Christian and anti-Semetic stuff than my fellow Freepers.

Sure you do. You have the right to try and get their site shut down just as you have the right to join an organization to ban guns or ban smoking or ban anything for that matter.

You just are not going to find much solidarity here.

I guess I'm just a little more offended by that anti-Christian and anti-Semetic stuff than my fellow Freepers.

Oh, and you can lose the sanctimonious "noooobody cares but me!!!" attitude. Realizing that there are websites out there that spew ignorant bile and taking up a crusade to sanitize the internet are two different things.

I remember an old saying: I hate what you day, but I'd die for your right to say it.

Freedom of speech means we don't shut someone down for disagreeing with us. That's what too many people are trying to do today, and it's not the American way.

Freedom of association means you can organize forums, like this place, of like minded people, and not have to put up with opposing viewpoints, because it is not in the public forum, but in a more private space.

If people want to get together and have discussion areas where they bring out the dark side of themselves, that is their freedom of speech and association at work. Doesn't mean I don't have the right to tell people its where the people I disagree with hang out (like the DU vs. Freeper viewpoints. On DU they have as much right to shut up people with our viewpoints as the mods have here at Free Republic have to zot people with the DU viewpoint).

Have a pancake.

Well, I can see this was a mistake. After reading some of the responses to me, and posts in other threads, I regret the idea of coming here. For example; in an other thread, some lady was spilling her heart about an abortion, and people were questioning whether it was a true story or not. What is that all about? I didn't see her asking for anything, certainly not to be questioned about the veracity of her story. And what difference would that make anyway?

As for my thread, I just asked for help. It would be real easy to say "no", even easier to say nothing at all.

Am I some other poster that has been lurking? No. This is day one for me...not that you all will believe me any more than the abortion lady, but that's the facts.

And Drew, I can be as sanctimonious as I want. Whether you like it or not. If trying to shut down an anti-semitic and anti-Christian site is not your thing, fine, don't do it.
