I may have to go get the CD myself. By the way, yesterday while at the grocery store,in the checkout lane I look over at the magazines. And the Enquirer had the headline about Carrie's affairs with Anthony and Bo. AI must love the publicity all these speculations about Carrie's love life bring to them.
BTW, now that there's a litte distance from the end of this year's competition, I find myself eagerly looking forward to both Bo's and Carrie's CDs. Musically speaking, I truly like them both. I actually am pleased their styles are so very different from each other.
As of last night, Amazon had Bo #1 and Carrie #3 on their hit predictor list. If Amazon's prediction is correct, they will both have hits, which feels right to me.
It's funny because Carrie's Mom denies that Bo and Carrie are together (Bo is still very much with his girlfriend), but issues a "no comment" regarding Anthony and Carrie-- which is the relationship that probably is happening (she's still wearing the "good luck" necklace he gave her even though she's now won the show and, therefore, doesn't really need good luck to win the show).
I meant to say that the part about the no comment was a part of the "story" from the Enquirer, thus the reason I mentioned it in reply to this post of Emily's.
Carrie singing Inside Your Heaven at the Grand Ole Opry-- countrified version
Margaret Thatcher? Would you like to explain that choice?
Listening to both of those songs is a real pleasure.
When she says "thank you" at the end with that catch in her voice it makes you want to just hug her.f
Yeah, that was an accident. I got disconnected and posted to the wrong thread. The comment was meant for a thread on Canadian health care. I found the sentence interesting because it ranked France 1st and yet it was only 2 years ago when they had all those deaths due to the heat. At any rate, it would probably be more work to remove the post than to just lt it go, so I did. But, I wondered how long before someone noticed it!? LOL :)
I've listened to "Breakaway" 4 or 5 times now (and some particular songs much more than that). Not only is Kelly's voice powerful, so are her lyrics. I'm impressed by the maturity in these songs.
Like "Because Of You"--
And "Gone"--
These aren't the kind of songs we usually hear from someone Kelly's age--thank goodness! These are songs that anybody can relate to, not just angst-filled teenagers.
I like all the songs, except for one--"I Hate Myself For Losing You". The lyrics bother me.
Geez, lighten up, Kelly!
"Breakaway" is a great album, but at times it's a little too dark, IMO. I would have liked to hear Kelly sing some slightly happier songs--I don't mean fluff, we have enough of that. Just something that's not so serious. Something that shows she can be mature and smile at the same time :)
Thanks for the links!
"Because of You" is one of my favorites. It was written by Kelly when she was about 16 or 17. David Hodges and Ben Moody helped her polish it up for inclusion in the album. The three of them also collaborated to write my favorite song from the album, "Addicted." According to info on the Kelly fan boards I frequent, "Because of You" might be the next single released from the album.
With the exception of "Breakaway" and "You Found Me," the lyrics on the album are dark. And I agree that it would be great to see her do something brighter. But I think the idea was for her to literally break totally away from the bubble gum pop junk of the Britney Spears type (and the glorified karaoke of AI), and establish Kelly as a serious musical artist. So they went light rock with very edgy lyrics -- and wound up with a smash hit album.
"Breakaway," the song, is the big surprise to me. It was an Avril Lavigne throwaway -- too sweet for what she was about musically.
Disney was looking for various young female singers to do the music for their "Princess Diaries 2." Someone recommended Kelly to them, and somehow Kelly and the song were put together. It's only one of several songs used for the film, only the chorus is used, and only once in the film. But that, and Kelly's voice, was all it took. It's the only song on the PD2 soundtrack to become a hit. And what a hit. Wow! I think it was released last July. Last summer, anyway. Here we are nearly a year later, and the song is still high on the charts, is still being played a lot on radio, and seems on its way to becoming a standard.
The interesting thing about "Breakaway," the song, is that it goes totally against what's happening in contemporary music.
So does Kelly, herself, for that matter. Although she's a pretty girl, she's certainly not a classic beauty. She's a down-to-earth young woman who is sort of the antithesis of the modern pop tarts and princesses. She certainly isn't a superstar, yet. But if she can get a Grammy nod or two, and follow this album up with another good album, she might make it to that level.
Bringing this conversation full circle back to AI, the strange thing is that the producers and judges never wanted Kelly to win. Their favorite that year was Tamyra Gray, and it was a big to-do when Tamyra only made it to the #4 spot. There were charges of racism and similar nonsense. Simon has said many times that he didn't really notice Kelly until about mid way through the final weeks. The ones they did want in the first three seasons -- Tamyra, Ruben and Fantasia -- haven't achieved anywhere near the success of that young woman from Burleson, TX.
I think Carrie and Bo have the potential to become successful, each in their own genre. Even with the boost from AI, it's still a tough, cold business. Kelly has shown the way, which is to make music that really suits what they are about musically. I'm hoping for the best for both of them.
Why do you think this is?
Not much of a Kelly fan are ya?
;)
IMHO she's OK. But nowadays, OK translates into Great because the landscape is so bleak.
I agree completely that the landscape is so bleak. I don't think Kelly is great -- keep saying she's not a superstar (although some say she is). I say we need to see how her career continues to develop. A Grammy nod and another good album after "Breakaway" will tell the tale about her long-term career.
Yes, you have been even-handed.
Certainly rooting for her is a good thing -- she seems like a good kid. No worse than Fabian or other manufactured stars. At least she is honest as opposed to being manufactured in the back alley.
I wish her the best -- along with Carrie and Bo. Screamtasia OTOH I wish to go away ;)
Mine too. I also really like "Since U Been Gone", "Behind These Hazel Eyes" and "Gone". "Addicted" is starting to grow on me, too.
But I think the idea was for her to literally break totally away from the bubble gum pop junk of the Britney Spears type (and the glorified karaoke of AI), and establish Kelly as a serious musical artist.
Well I certainly can't fault her for that. Anything she can do to put distance between herself and the Spears/Aguilerra crowd is okay with me. (She's infinitely more talented than those two, anyway.) I just wish she would smile more--Kelly has a beautiful smile.

Sounds like you're warming up to Carrie :)
Like you, I've been watching AI from the beginning, but this is the first year that I'm actually looking forward to the obligatory CDs. I have high hopes for both Carrie and Bo. It's great that they each already have found their own musical niche--that, plus their AI exposure will go a long way in establishing a fan base.
(PS: I hope that Bo is able to include the live AI performance of "In A Dream" on his CD. It would be a crime not to, IMO.)
I genuinely did like Carrie the best until about mid-way through the elimination of the final 12. Still can't say exactly what began to turn me off to her. All I can reduce it down to is that I see her as cold. But it doesn't matter, because now that the competition is over I no longer feel as strongly about it. What matters now is the music she puts out. If it's good, I'll support her completely.
Or he doesn't get turned on by women... < /ducking >
Just dropped by the old AI thread for some nostalgia, because the summer is so dreary without all of you. Glad to see everyone is still here!

I heard she was doing that.
Good for her, very considerate and special.
