Unbelievable. You got a freeze and others got snow last night.
We're nice and mild, it rained gently most of the night and we're waking up to sunshine today. That's my favorite kind of weather, and perfect for growing grass in. Pasture is starting to look better.
Good afternoon. It's cold here too and the wind is howling and has been since yesterday morning.
It's been a helluva trip home. My farrier was supposed to show up Wednesday afternoon and finally made it yesterday morning. The transmission in my Jeep went out Thursday. Rain has knocked out most of the turkey hunting. Can't go turkey hunting tomorrow morning cause I gotta have my Jeep towed to a transmission shop.
Did get some work done on my barn yesterday. Hope to get some riding in today and tomorrow. Today is iffy. I don't know if I want to be out there in this wind. Spending so much time in south Florida is making me soft about cold weather.
Just wait till hurricane season. ;~D
I don't like to ride in wind and bad weather either. The wind makes the horses fruity. I always thought they get goofy in wind because the wind brought in scary smells from other places, but my dad who hunted deer thinks the opposite is true. He thinks that prey animals who depend on their senses to detect potential threats get spooked in the wind because their important sense of smell is removed and they know it. When it is windy and they can't trust their noses, they rely twice as much on their vision, making them look around twice as much for potential danger.
That's what my trainer says too but she also says it affects there hearing so they have two senses down and have to keep looking for boogies since they can't smell or hear them.
True.
We should be in the 90's tomorrow or Tuesday. It's nice and sunny here.
If you are in the 90's now, what is it going to be like in July?
Hot? :')
And then lunged them dry...
Pony got a bath too. :~D
Cyn got a bath and lunged and she was in a feisty mood today ;~D
But she did eventually settle down and work, but those pictures aren't as fun ;~D
ecurbh figured out that he lunges horses better when he's mad. He's just too passive in his normal mode. Cyn just stops and stares at him ;~D
We had a great day here. The weather was nice this afternoon. All the kids were here. We played baseball all afternoon.
Most exciting thing tho. Mack signed me, Jenny and Kristy up for a 3 day Martha Josey Barrel clinic in June:) We, husbands, kids, and all are going. But us girls will do the clinic while the guys watch or whatever. We will take the RV, and Travis's parents have a 4 horse slant goosneck. Charlie has a truck to pull it:)
I'm very excited. Not only to get to go to the clinic but that all of us are going together.
Becky
Hey - that sounds like loads of fun!
How far away is it to haul?
I've always wanted to go to one of those clinics. I think I will be more comfortable with the girls there.
Becky
It's a 6 hour drive. I have done a competitive ride real close to where her ranch is. It's dual highway all the way.
It's around Marshall Tx.
Becky
That's a long day driving with horses, but it sounds like a lot of fun!
Which horse are you taking?
I've done this trip 2 other times. I really won't be to bad for the horses, especially with the trailer we are going to use. It's a nice roomy aluminum one.
Well I would like to take Rusty. These clinics are more to teach the rider how to teach a horse, rather then training a horse. I think it best to take a horse you are most comfortable on. But it will depend on his health at the time. I will definitly take a big jug of Maalox:)
Becky
I so hope he's good for you then!
I'm gonna hit the couch [nap]... I did a number on my feet again today. Talk to you all later.... :~)
Jenny will take Dot, and Kristy will take Rowdy. I think I read somewhere that they don't allow studs.
Becky
I'm sorry, I did not mean to be so self centered:) Your pictures are great. Cyn looks like she was having fun.
While we were playing baseball today in the yard, Rusty was loose eating grass. When the ball would bounce near him, he'd snort and run to his stall, after a while it looked like he was curious about what it was and chased after it a few times.
It bounced thru Rocks run a few times, and he never even reacted.
Becky
Oh that is going to be great - you all will have a ball. Remember to have someone take pictures.
