*New* The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I think so. She was doing some coughing yesterday when I was riding her but it was always when we were headed south so I think it was probably just dust. I'm watching here real close though.

Good morning everyone, we have SUN at last! It's supposed to get in the 80s today.
Fun this morning, looked out of the kitchen window and saw ADGE walk past.........Hmmmm, a long way from the field he is supposed to be in!
Went outside and Sugar, Misty, Thunder and Adge had got out of the gate, guess it wasn't latched properly!
We managed to get them back in without any fuss, lots of grain, but no fuss! LOL
What was nice about it was Thunder went up to the field that Lightning was in and they nose kissed for ages over the gate. Guess he got to meet Dad big time! It was beautiful.
I know.............I know.......... I should have had my camera! LOL
Cindydawg, I am so glad Okie is doing better!

I can't figure out why he put the tube in to begin with though. He wasn't planning to worm at first. I didn't see him add any meds. Maybe he was looking for an obstruction?

LOL, nothing like your horses being loose.

I remember one morning, walking past the front door and looking out and seeing a big empty run where Rocky was suppose to be. I Just stood there staring thinking, this can't be true:)

I found him up the road visiting a neighbors horse. LUckily he came too me as soon as I saw an hollered for him.

We have only had the horses get out 3 times, and thankfully they always stay on our property and look for where we hide the feed! They are pretty easy to get back in, apart from Lightning who LOVES the game! He will run right at me and veer at the last moment, not good for confidence building I can tell you, but after a couple of times scaring me, he's bored and ready to go find feed!
We are off on our exciting trip to the landfil again! So I'll catch up with you later.
Gonna grab a coke on the way out and I just KNOW I will have the image of horse slobber when I take a sip.......Urgh!

Me too. Sounds like a busy morning for you. Mine like it on the other side of the fence too until you take them out the main gate. I haven't been able to figure that one out. How do they know when we go past that gate that they are leaving home?

Hmmmmmm. Was the horse trying to colic or something, having belly problems?

I remember one morning, walking past the front door and looking out and seeing a big empty run where Rocky was suppose to be.

That is a sight that strikes absolute terror in my heart. The last time that happened to me, I ended up with a dead horse on the side of the highway. NOT a good day at all!

Oh my goodness! That must have been awful!
Fortunately we are not anywhere near a busy road. We have the dirt road that we live on, we own the only two houses on it, and then at the very end, the road that it leads onto is not busy at all.
Put it this way, when my friend was here and Jacob stopped playing and got excited because he could here a truck, she told me that we live too far out in the country! LOL

I've noticed it depends on the horse if when they get the chance they leave the property. My mare could be loose all day or night and she stayed right around the house. Rusty would stay then wonder down the drive, but never went far.

The 3 times Rocky has gotten out since we had him he's always went up the road in the same direction, stopping by the houses along the way that have horses, but was always easy to catch when I caught up with him. The worry about him is he is a stud, and I worried he'd find a mare in season and try breeding over a fence.

ONe of the times it was at night. He stopped at a house that had floor to ceiling livingroom windows. A lady was sleeping on a couch there. She woke up to see Rocky standing outside the windows. He was seeing his reflection, and talking and striking out with a front foot to that horse in the window. WE were lucky he didn't break thru But he let her catch him easy.

We have cotton fields all around us, which is very pretty when they bloom.
Well deaconjim has loaded up the truck so we're gone.
Have a great day!

Oh, my...Did he get hit?

That is what I worry about, but luckily our road is not busy, and a deadend.

It was my fault I had gotten in the habit of leaving the front gate open. The times he got out was when his hot wire run was not working and I didn't know it. I keep the gate shut now rather there is a horse in that run or not.

I'd love to live that far from a busy road. The house where I lived when this happened was about 50 feet from a main state highway that crossed a dam over the Tennessee River, so there was always traffic on it, even in the middle of the night. A lot of it was log trucks going to and from a paper mill on the other side of the river. Sometimes I would swear that they were driving right through my living room, especially if they decided to use their jake breaks. I always thought that was an incredibly rude thing to do in a residential area. I still live fairly close to that same highway, just 20 miles or so further south. There's not near the log truck traffic, but I live very close to a county school, so I get that traffic. Baseball and Softball season has started and there's a crowd out at the fields nearly all the time. In the fall, it's peewee football. But, it's a nice community. My husband grew up there and everybody knows everybody else, and who their Mama and Daddy is, and who their Grandma and Grandpa are and so on forever. So you'd better not do anything wrong or somebody's gonna know it and tell. ;o)

That's kind of how our town is. We have lived here now for 26 years, and just recently the old timers:) have stopped calling us squatters. I think we are finally considered Bixbians:)

Heading out now to get Rocky saddled. See ya.

Yes, she did. I don't know by who though. We just found her dead in the ditch and there were skidmarks and broken headlight glass. I imagine it totaled somebody's car.

Oh how terrible, that happened to your horse. The trail pics were very nice, you sure don't bore me with them. I laughed at Blade's hair coat. He looks like he was rode hard and put away wet...lol They sure are a lot prettier than some of the racking/walkers, I have seen for sale on the net.

The sun is shining today, and it is suppose to get near 60. 70 tomorrow, then back down to 50's later in week. Maybe spring will finally get here.
