Well, I'm relatively new, so I didn't get to know you...now it looks like I won't have the opportunity. So sorry to see you go. Too bad we have such idiots in this world. I said in another thread that there are people who not only are miserable themselves, but try their best to make everyone else miserable. They get some kind of perverse pleasure every time they succeed. What kills their fun is when you ignore them, pretend they don't exist. Trouble is that most of us feel we have to defend ourselves against such attacks, and that's what these types count on. What we have to remember is that most of those who know you well -- your true friends -- won't believe the hate spewed by these ignoramuses.

What has worked for me is not to permanently exile myself from boards/chatrooms where things have gotten out of hand, but rather, to just take a temporary leave of absence. Right now, I'm on a temporary leave from another political board where a few have made life unpleasant for many of the regulars. At some point, I'l probably go back there, but it has been good for my mind, body and spirit to take a breather.

Anyway,wherever life takes you, goodbye, good luck, good health and a long and happy life. :)

FRiend, I hate to see you leave, but I do understand if you feel you must. There are some real jerks who make things unpleasant, especially on the immigration threads. I've learned to fight back though, because if I didn't, they would drive me off too, or worse, I'd get banned.

That said, I don't know how you can do it though. Just the thought of it gives me withdrawals. LOL

I seem to remember that, for a brief time at least, others were not so routinely accused of "falsities" or lies simply because one considered the opinions of others to be "hooey".

See, here's the deal. It was this way in 1998, 1999... 2005, and likely for the foreseeable future. People (often those whose feelings are easily hurt and/or those that have difficulty defending their positions) can post hooey in opi, and I can call it hooey. Especially if I back up my statement. And you get to not agree with me! (See, this latter part is what often leads to an opus...)

I'm raising this point in an honest dialogue. I wish you, and anyone else who cares to opine, would explain why you get upset if someone posts a nasty, stupid, vile, whatever comment to you. It happens to me often, and I just ignore them..Don't bother to respond..Just like if you're out walking and you see a pile of doggy doo on the sidewalk..you step around/over it..you don't look around for the dog who left it..It ain't worth it. If people are uncilivized..you ignore them..but you don't stop walking on the streets..do you?..

FR has its flaws, and its problems..but hell, man, so does democracy..Use it for its strengths..

To me, it's as though I have an army of several hundred like-minded ( for the most paert) research assistants, working just for me, who every day scour all the media for articles that might be of interest to me, and lay them out for me in an orderly form for perusal at my convenience. I can read them, or not, comment, or not, respond, or not..so what's possibly gonna be better than that?

And yes, there are idiots, and worse, here, but in case you haven't noticed, they're everywhere..Come up to NYC and spend a day on the subways..

You could be right. There have been occasional changes though. I've always thought it would be interesting to see what this site would be like with slashdot-style moderation.

I must say that I do like Opuses though. I've seen some where the commentary was a riot.
