~The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XX
May 8, 2005 | bentfeather Poets of the Lair

Posted on 05/08/2005 8:31:59 PM PDT by Soaring Feather

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Mountain And Sea

The mountains shall bring peace,'tis said;
They bring it not to me,__
The craggy heights are cold and dead
Give me the tossing sea

Too like the prison of our life,
These cliffs unyielding stand;
They stir the passion of a strife
They cannot understand.

But where the breakers strike the bar
And rolling billows foam,
Where tides come creeping in from far,
And bring the sailor home,__

There, where the sunset lights the sails
That seek another shore,
Would all my longing might avail
To draw me evermore

Elizabeth T. Spring

Ha! You see that?! I hop in & am inspired
by an old poem. How do you like that?!

The Lily of The Valley
graces the ground
with white fairy bells
dangling down.
Morning dew
caresses their leaves
& stars of twilight
bless them on eves.

The long days of summer pass me by
as I chase my ever elusive butterfly.
I run after it every day
& still it manages to keep away.
Whenever I seem to have it in sight,
it turns a sharp left or makes a quick right.
I finally digress, I'm not to hold
the beauty with wings of solid gold.
I lay, defeated, on Earth's lush, green floor.
I can't chase after it anymore.
Just when my hope is almost gone,
I see my butterfly on the horizon.
The moral of the story is, you see,
when I chased, my butterfly tried to flee,
but when I waited... it returned to me.

Oh I had a horse and his name was Bill
And when he ran he couldn't stand still
He ran away one day
And also I ran with him

He ran so fast he could not stop
He ran into a barber shop
Fell exhaustionized - with his eye teeth -
In the barber's left shoulder

I had a gal and her name was Daisy
And when she sang the cat went crazy
With deliriums - St. Vituses -
And all kinds of cataleptics

One day she sang a song about
A man who turned himself inside out
And jumped into the river
He was so very sleepy

I'm going out in the woods next year
And shoot for beer and not for deer
Well I am, well I ain't
I'm a great sharpshootress

At shooting birds I am a beaut
There is no bird I cannot shoot
In the eye, in the ear, in the teeth
And in the fingers

I went up in a balloon so big
The people on earth looked like, a pig
Like a mouse, like a caddydid
Like flyses and like fleases

The balloon had turned up with its bottom side high
Fell on the wife of a country squire
She made a noise like a doghound, like a steam whistle
And also like dynamite

What, could you do in a case like that
What can you do but stamp on your hat
Or on your grandmother, on your toothbrush
And on everything that's helpless.

Candle

I light my candle,
melting it clear
the air whispers,
sometimes too near.
My candle burns
yellow, blue, white,
I keep it going
all through the night.
Sometimes it flickers,
moving in torrid patterns,
circling, dwindling, sparking tatters,
flame wanes, then rises up,
springing form what you thought was no more.
It keeps on fighting,
melting wax as time goes by,
the candle is me,
and it is I.

Good afternoon Ms. Feather!

Three little birds in a row
Sat musing.
A man passed near that place.
Then did the little birds nudge each other.

They said, "He thinks he can sing."
They threw back their heads to laugh.
With quaint countenances
They regarded him.
They were very curious,
Those three little birds in a row.

That poem can actually be taken literally or
metaphorically, something which makes me
a bit proud... as I don't usually write something
that can be seen both ways. Metaphorically, the
butterfly is love.

I came up with it right after "Lily Of The Valley". I
had the title sitting around, I had seen it somewhere
& wrote it down 'cause it had that kind of sound
(I'm sure you know what sound that is) a poet is
attracted to. It's actually called "Elusive Butterfly".

Thank you.
