The Dragon Flies' Lair~Thread XXI~
June 26, 2005 | bentfeather/Poets of the Lair

Posted on 06/25/2005 9:22:33 PM PDT by Soaring Feather

My Dragon Fly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

A little something now, and maybe more once the severe weather and possible tornados drift away! ;^)

Storm

Black winds tear at the ebon night sky,
as stark white jagged spears are loosed to fly.
Trees moan in the battling winds set about,
and spirits hide as the lights go out.

Thunder walks the night, setting all in doubt,
as rain in sheets does hide the world about.
Peace is sitting by the fire, and here I tend to laze,
until Nature vents her wrath, and finally sleep in a daze!

Purpose

I weep,
for a hollowness within,
in the darkness,
old hurts still burn.

Yet,
I welcome that,
for it means I still live,
still feel.

By that,
I know I will go on,
I will remember,
even as the years turn.

My life is,
a monument to those gone,
lived to remember them,
as my emotions reel.

At peace,
in His light,
I surrender to His ways,
understanding, when I but yield.

I smile,
for at last I know,
I am the one, who will remember,
holding on to memory’s seal.

Good morning,Johnn.

Both "Storm" and "Purpose" are wow poems.

We had a storm yesterday afternoon like the one you described. I had to shut the computer down.

Purpose is very well written and so clearly tells of hurt and pain. The need for both of these emotions.

Ran across this line, and thought it worthy of sharing.

quote:

Plan ahead -- It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.

There is a lot of life that would benefit from that I think!

Ms. 'feather
glad you liked the two poems, something about storms, (both external and internal) that are a good basis for poems!

"How are you today??"

I'm fine, just got back from riding the antique trolley around town, and stopping for a an old-fashion Burger, fries and a malt, (Vanilla, Banana, and Raspberry).
Took time to sit on a bench on the lakeshore, and watched the clouds race by, and smoked my pipe, and let the world race on by while I took a time out!

I feel fine, clearly taking a few moments to relax is key in getting a step up on the problems of life. There still there, but I see them with a bit different viewpoint, and they seem a lot smaller then before.

And you my Muse??

Ah sounds like a perfect afternoon. The weather is quite lovely here today. I saw on the Weather Channel, you folks had some rip snorting storms.

My muse needs some help, lately she is playing her vague games with me.

"My muse needs some help, lately she is playing her vague games with me."

I often have that same response from her. I usually get around that by writing about something so silly, impossible, or just crazy, and my imagination takes off and the block vaporizes in the concentrated silliness.

Example: write something about any of the following: (need not be a poem)
1.Antics of a guy on rollerblades who suddenly can’t see where he’s going.

2.A dog (afraid of cats) locked in a cat show and unable to get out of the place.

3.A guy walking down 57 flights of stairs, suddenly finding the floors are greased.

4.A woman, dreaming she is flying nude over a crowd, wakes up in Grand Central Station, naked.

5.The convoluted path a ball takes bouncing from floor to floor in a huge store, using escalators, stairs, counter tops and all the customers and staff affected by the ball’s fall.

Write this only for yourself, (unless you want to share it), and you will be surprised where your mind takes you, and soon the block to creativeness is gone! (and you will often be quite amused at the things you can think up along the way.) ;^)

Again

Gentle does my dream come,
and I sit with you,
laughing with you,
sharing a quiet moment.

I have to admit I miss you some,
oh Lordy, but I truly do,
not knowing what to do,
you were a friend heaven sent.

Your smile was the sum,
for I knew I could write too,
and to make it work too,
my muse would be so content.

LadyBug

Ladybug! Ladybug! Fly away home;
Your house is on fire, your children all gone;
All but one, and her name is Ann,
And she crept under the pudding pan.

The traditional poem above is still repeated by children today, but many say it got it beginnings in Medieval Folklore and referred to the burning of hops vines to clear the fields after the harvest. The ladybugs would fly away, and the larvae would crawl away, but the pupa would remain fastened to the vine and burn.,

I have that in a Mother Goose book. It actually was
never among the ones my mom read to me. One of
my favorites was "Lucy Locket lost her pocket, Kitty
Fisher found it. Nothing in it, nothing in it, but the binding
wrapped 'round it." The book I have has lovely illustrations.

or would that perhaps, put one on the spot?

I waited by the glen for him
one foggy, misty night
when from the fern there
came a sound ...I nearly died from fright
'Twas the haunting sound of pain
the kind that's in the soul
I clutched my breast from fear
that I would be the first to know

It was the lovely dragonfly
caught in the web of din
my lovely, lonely dragonfly
I caught a glimpse of him
his iridescent wings shimmered
in the sheltered light
I held my breathe so he would not hear
my horrible, lonely fright
I stifled all the sound in me
for all those years I waited
in the glen, by the fern, in lowly
cold night air for him
for the whisper of his wings
drawing near and the softness of his eyes
on me in the ferny glen

I held the silence for the night
and left the scene before dawns light
came creeping in on cats paws cold
and covered my eyes from his lovely hold
and I whispered ever so softly
his name for him to hear
and promised him once again
I would always be right here.

Night along the Fen

Wind kissed willows
along the dankness of the fen
lit by a waning moon’s brush
a picture of utter stillness
even unto my lonely soul
and it was a balm to torments past

Overhead, the clouds did billow
hiding the moon, in silences to deafen
until the mood was cloaked in hush
and the spirit lay tattered as if in illness
I ache for that which will make me whole
a moment to capture me and hold tender fast

In my silence, I at first failed to perceive
a shape moving along the benighted shore
a sweet figure lithe and graceful sure
and I saw my dream come true in you
among mists you came as if on silent wings
and I knew time stood still, I forgot to breathe

Here I’d come to vent my pain, to grieve
only to find life, in all its wonder, did hold more
for I found something now so sweet and pure
and in that moment, my heart knew what to do
for it fell before that which has leveled kings
for only good may exist where love does seethe

and a little something to consider as night draws nigh. ;^)

Night Sky

Raw wind chills,
and cold rain kills,
so bitter the Nor’easter comes to call.

Waves tear at the shore,
and tides wash evermore,
as the weather glass does but fall.

Clouds shutter off the sky,
as even the moon’s light flies,
and darkness brings the storm clouds tall.

Lightening spears the sky so bright,
stark the burning of that light,
illuminating the fury of the squall.

Off to see Star Wars III, Laterya all!
