Skip to comments. The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread SEVEN
Posted on 07/14/2005 3:23:55 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
New thread ping!
Thanks for the picture:)
Hey did you post #4551 over on the other thread, I could have sworn I saw it over there, then I clicked it and it was gone.
You all horse lovers/owners:)? I don't think I've seen you here before. Welcome.
I did post a 4551, as a link to this one, and then I reported the thread so they'd lock it....
I don't know if it will post now that it's locked, it may be permanently lost out in the Twilight Zone :~D
So far, it seems to be posting better... without pushing :~D
I've got another section of lawn to mow.... back later :~D
LOL! Mowed a bunch the other day and broke the mower again. Another $70 worth of parts. At this rate we could have bought a new ride on already this year!
I still have one stretch that isnt mowed, and it will probably stay that way for two weeks now!
I do believe that lawn mowers (ride ons especially), weedeaters, and vaccuum cleaners should all be CHEAP and DISPOSABLE! LOL
OK OK why does EVERYTHING happen when deaconjim is at work? I just went out to put something in my van and a cow startled the hell out of me by coming up behind me............yep, you read right a COW! Got a whole front yard full of em. ~SIGHS~
I guess this is where i see how much training my dogs have learnt. Be back in a bit, If I'm not, ALERT deaconjim! : )
Gads... How many? If you want to catch them until the ownership is found, food is better than herding. they may come round for hay, but if they've been grained at all, they'll follow a bucket. Just lead them in a pen and dump it on the ground.
Oh - and put them in a field with at least field fence... they won't stay in that tape.
And don't put them in with the horses ;~D
(talking to an empty room)
Well that was easy! I took an (empty) feed bucket off the back of the golf cart that was parked by my van, whistled for my dogs, walked down the driveway, down our dirt road to our other house and at the back of that house is the gate that they must have worked open and got through. The dogs Sally and Benji did GREAT in keeping them in order and the cows followed me through into the field, no problem! I have secured the gate and am back here in about 20 mins?!!! Whew!
One thing i forgot to do...........note to self, wear shoes next time you walk that far! LOL LOL
Oh - I was picturing that you might not know where they came from and would have to keep 'em.
I had to do that once when I was farm sitting.... No idea who's cows they were.
Thank goodness I knew where they were from because I wouldnt have wanted to feed them all for any length of time! There are about 30 cows in the field behind us that joins the field that Sugar and Smokey are in now. They sleep under our 2 huge pecan trees. : ) I love to hear/see them as I am very fond of cows. My grandparents were dairy farmers and I learnt a lot from them! (the old fashioned way).
This poor girl, in my daughter's club had a slight accident with her horse. She was in a gaming class, had run it, but bumped the fence. She got mad at the horse and jerked him. He reared up, got his feet over the rail and she went off. One of his hooves scraped her head...ouch! She went to the hospital and came back later and ran more classes...crazy kids!...lol
Good grief.... kids indeed!
Wow. I'm impressed
She's lucky. Got more paint pictures?:')
Oh that poor kid. Her darn eye is completely swollen shut! Eeesh.
On a sad note, it has been so hot, that a couple of chickens and turkeys died at the fair. I am going back tomorrow, so I will try and take some pictures. I was sitting on a bench, eating my fries, and people watching. You just wouldn't believe some of them.
Well, if I'm moved I still plan to breed Sarah Lee with an Overo next year and see what happens. We are talking about buying a registered mare too.
What time are yall leaving tomorrow?
about 6pm. We will head out, get a take out and drive through the night. We have friends who are going to have the kids tommorow 1pm till 4pm so that deaconjim and i can sleep. ? : ) thats the idea anyway! LOL
did your sister have any ideas of places my friends can rent when they move down? So far they have drawn a blank. Biggest problem is they have pets!
Have a safe and enjoyable trip! Good luck in your house hunting.
Thanks, talking of which, I must get down to business and wheedle out which properties we want to go see, and which ones are still available. : )
Shoot. I'm sorry. I forgot. I just paged her.
I prefer night driving too:') I can't remember the last time we took a two week vaction. It's been at least 6 years.
deaconjim and I have always had to make sure someone was caring for his parents and arrange and pay for someone to come in, and the few times we have left it to family promises we have either not been able to go and lost the vacation, or we have had to come home early. Not that I regret any of that, but........
Now that his parents are in Heaven, I can, probably for the first time since we have been together, really relax on vacation. : )
"This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping."
My best advice to jockeys...DON'T fall off!!!
Yall have a good time. I'll try to catch you tomorrow before you leave. No cares, ok? :')
Sounds like good advice! Is this an experienced opinion?
Welcome to the thread!
Have a good trip, you two!
You have a good time too and a safe trip and a word of advice, it's always wise to have somthing at hand to throw when husbands make comments like that! LOL : )
"Sounds like good advice! Is this an experienced opinion?
Welcome to the thread!"
Thank you for the welcome. This is not an experienced opinion. I don't ride 'em, just bet on them. LOL.
By the way, I recognize you from last nights DUmmie discussion. I guess you didn't realize that you were a DUmmie newbie, huh? LOL.
Oh I read 'em once in awhile. Sometimes they're funny, last night it wasn't.
I swear if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all:)
Busted saddle tree.
I know, I was just suprised how some tried to give you a beating. You handled yourself OK.
New Saddle Club thread.
I called and set up the reservations for the trail ride on Sunday morning. Rebecca and I are ~so~ excited!
The ride is for an hour and a half - through different terrain. And Rebecca gets a horse, not a pony - as per the fella I talked to on the phone.
All right, you're going on a ride:)
That's great. Have lots of fun, take pictures.
We're going here.
You know this sort of thing is very habit forming:)
I was talking to Hair about it last night. If Rebecca enjoys herself, we'll do this once or twice a month as we can afford it.
If she really takes to it, I'll sign her up for lessons.
Which means, I can tag along, right? *wink*
Most definitly you'd have to tag along:)
How old is Rebecca?
She'll be 8 in September.
