If you ever took care of people slowly, horribly dying from cancer caused from smoking you would realize that later comes and it can be filled with more horror than the present. One lady's horror I can describe to you had cancer from smoking. It spread from her lungs throughout her body. It is hard to clean someone and not let them know how horribly they smell when they have holes oozing with fetid puss and feces doesn't come out from where it is suppose to but comes out from holes in her flesh in different parts of her lower body. Try being there there for her after her legs blow up like huge balloons and end up popping all over the place. The pain from dying like this is to be dreaded and avoided.
Lets see....IEDs Mortar rounds, small arms fire, accident, disease, biowar, dirty bombs, car bombs, suicide bombers, snipers, vehicle accidents, insect bites, plane/helo crashes, falling off of the d@mned step and breaking their neck, getting their eyes put out with the pointy thing on the end of the rifle, running with scissors, smoking, SMOKING? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR f*****G MIND? GET A LIFE ALLREADY AND LEAVE THEM TO DO THEIR JOB!
None of which has anything whatsoever to do with you advocating the use of force to "protect" people from themselves.

Yea, the height of bazaar, that people should not be allowed to smoke non stop while on duty. I am beginning to wonder if some of you militant smokers don't have other psychological issues than being addicted to cigarettes. You seem to be an angry and nasty group. Good one, Harry. You seem to only have got 2 Puff List folks to respond to this thread (CSM and myself). I'm guessing that there's more good folks here on FR sympathetic to smokers than we thought. Kind of an inadvertant experiment with interesting results.

On the same grounds that they carefully sterilize the injection site for the lethal injection, I'm surprised they don't refuse the condemned man a cigarette on the grounds that it may be bad for his health.
Or that smoking is not permitted on state property.
Why do these people have to maximize everything. Tobacco is a mild tranquilizer, not too good for the health over the long run but perhaps not as bad as advertised, that gives instant relief, and has the advantage of in no way impairing the user. Why would the army want to take that away from the fighting men?
It has occurred to me that it would be sad if a bunch of young men went overseas and came home with the habit that didn't have it before. It is damned hard to give up for good.
As someone who has many, many times posted sarcasm that the usual suspects didn't get, you can't post things that people are really thinking and hope to get away with it!
