TD8? Harvey?

Posted on 07/26/2005 5:09:33 PM PDT by libtoken

The weatherboards are talking about Invest92L. They currently expect it to be over the NE/E Caribbean Saturday or Sunday as Harvey.

Be prepared for a new megathread...

I thought Harvey was a rabbit.

Follow up to my previous reply

Favorite line from the Jimmy Stewart movie, Harvey (which was an invisible six foot magical white rabbit, also known as a pookah), when the insane asylum orderly Mr. Wilson, played by Jesse White (the original Maytag repair man), looked up what a pookah was in the dictionary:

"a mischievous woodland spirit and how are you today Mr. Wilson?"

This could be a VERY unpredictable storm

There is actually a 92L and now a 93L. 92L is not looking as hot as it did, but 93L (closer to the african coast, looks quite ominous)... I think Cape Verde season might be about to get underway.

93L

And look out... you think you have seen some big storms already this year? With 29-31C (84-88F) temps all the way across... many places in and around the GOM near or above 90F now (outside the upwelling), we are going to see some monsters from Cape Verde if the upper air pattern remains favorable.

The red on that chart shows a clear path to the GOM. That can't be good.

We're only 9 weeks into hurricane season, but we're already at hurricane name #8 out of a list of 21. We're gonna run out of names!

According to www.infoplease.com:
"Between June and November, an average of six tropical storms per year mature into hurricanes"

We're way ahead this year...

Good line indeed! My favorite is "Well, I've wrestled with reality for 35 years, doctor, and I'm happy to state I finally won out over it."

Hello, Harvey?

North Atlantic Tropical Weather Outlook

Shower and thunderstorm activity associated with a vigorous tropical wave about 425 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands has become a little better organized this afternoon. Additional organization of this system is possible and a tropical depression could form during the next couple of days as it moves toward the west-northwest about 15 to 20 mph. An Air Force Reserve unit reconnaissance aircraft is scheduled to investigate the system tomorrow afternoon...if necessary.

Can't be Harvey. No Harvey has ever formed prior to September 11. Then again, no Gert ever formed before September 7, and nary an "F" storm at all before September 2nd.

We have entered the tropical twilight zone...

I've been watching this puppy all week. It was fighting too much dry air to really develop much, but now that the models have it moving north of Hispanola, it should probably develop into Harvey before hitting Florida or possibly shooting the gap into the Gulf.

What fun.

It's really starting to generate some outflow to the north. Not a good thing.

Looks much better today, they all have been waiting to get their act together till about this region so far this season.. I haven't looked at much, but I know we are in a bit of a different pattern up here in New England...looks like frequent cold fronts for a while. That could mean recurve, or it could mean FL gets a lot of hits again (like we started to see in Aug last yr).

I'm headed to Baltimore for a weather conference tomorrow.. If I can manage to find a computer, I'll be following it - maybe with some input from Paul Kocin. ;-)

Those models are remarkably aligned out to 120 hours, well north of Hispaniola.
