SCOTT PETERSON AND LACI`S MOM FIGHT OVER LIFE INSURANCE POLICY
Wednesday, September 28, 2005
The case of Laci Peterson, the pregnant California woman who was murdered and whose body was dumped in San Francisco Bay, is once again making headlines. But this time, the issue is who will collect Laci`s $250,000 life insurance policy. Her husband Scott Peterson was convicted and sentenced to death last year in connection with her murder and that of their unborn child. He wants the money, but so does Laci`s mother. A hearing has been set for October 21st.
At first I thought this was an article about the man who starved his wife to death in the absence of a written legal document.
Is it even legal for him to receive the insurance money, since he KILLED her and the baby???? How stupid is this?
Excuse me? Her murderer can collect her life insurance? In what universe? Have we become this insane?
Great's probably on the phone with her travel agent as this thread grows...
Insurance companies have a policy NOT to release funds to the killer.
I see no point to this being a "case."
It's a time thing. I you've had a life insurance policy long enough, even if you kill yourself, it still pays off.
Not sure, but that might be what's in play here.
Yes, disgusting if he should ever see one penny of it.
(Denny Crane: "Sometimes you can only look for answers from God and failing that... and Fox News".)
Shouldn't this headline read?: "SCOTT PETERSON'S AND LACI`S MOMS FIGHT OVER LIFE INSURANCE POLICY"
I can't imagine Calif. doesn't have the same law as Georgia and every other state I've dealt with -- the murderer can't get life insurance proceeds.
(Duh! Talk about a motive!)
Scott is just getting bored in prison and hopes to get some free time out of prison and failing that... and putting too many ANDs in the same sentence.
Scott Peterson is awaiting execution for the murder of his pregnant wife, Laci, and their unborn son.
FRESNO, California (AP) -- A judge ruled Friday that proceeds from a $250,000 life insurance policy Scott Peterson took out on his wife, Laci, will go to her mother instead.
Because Scott Peterson was convicted of killing his pregnant wife, Stanislaus County Superior Court Judge Roger Beauchesne said he is not entitled to collect the benefits of her life insurance policy. Under state law, criminals cannot profit from their crimes.
The judge said the money should go to the executor of Laci Peterson's estate, her mother, Sharon Rocha.
Neither Rocha, who had petitioned the court, nor Scott Peterson's attorney could be reached for comment Friday.
Scott Peterson was sentenced to death earlier this year for killing his wife and their unborn son. Their bodies were found on the shore of San Francisco Bay months after her December 2002 disappearance.
A $25 million wrongful death lawsuit filed against Scott Peterson by Laci Peterson's family is set for trial in April.
