Burger King Creeps Me Out, Man!
Burger King | 10/25/05 | ltn72

Posted on 10/25/2005 11:19:54 AM PDT by pabianice

Has anybody else been, like, totally creeped-out by the recent Burger King ad series?

I mean, like, there's this guy waking up and standing silently next to him is as scary a sight as one is likely to encounter: a hulking Burger King with a frozen face, mouth open (to take a big bite?), staring silently at the poor guy. Ewww!

It's just one of a series of totally bizarre ads all featuring the sudden appearance of the Burger King right in, like, someone's face, like, out of nowhere.

I guess the idea is that when you are, like, hungry, you'll think of grabbing a burger from BK. But really, man. Who thought this series up? I mean, like, if I woke up and saw this thing standing next to my bed, my only throught would be to get my .357 out as fast as I could and, like, blow this ugly mofo back to the Ring of Hell from which it emerged.

Maybe these ads will spur gun sales. That would be way cool!

I believe that's the point of the commercials. They're playing with the mild shock/creep value to make the commercials memorable. It worked too, didn't it. :-)

Another reason why we never go to the fast food(?) joints.

You're not alone...but then again I don't like clowns, or anything sneaking up on me. I would have to beat him relentlessly. Way too creepy...

He is a messenger of Satan, no doubt.

He is a lot better than their last character.

The Quizno's rodent was so gross, I've yet to buy a sandwich from them.

IIRC, the guys who did the Quizno's ad are the same ones who created the original viking kitties.

There is a school of thought in the marketing industry that the only important thing about an ad is that you remember it.

By that standard, it is a good ad campaign.

Corollary: There is no such thing as bad publicity.

The commercials that bother me are the BP ads with the unstaged, impromptu (ha!) environmentally correct comments made by self-righteous supposedly everyday citizens.

Yeah, that was my reaction, too.
Why would the ad agency think that creepy king would make you want to go to BK and buy anything?
Are we supposed to think, "Yeah, he's creepy. MMMM, burgers!"?

I really really hate these commercials. A lot. Almost as much as Ditech, Geico, and Vehix!

I like Burger King, but I refuse to eat there till that seriously creepy ~thing~ goes away.

Better than having Scott Ritter in their ads.

This is true, if you don't make an impression, you have done nothing.

He fits right in.
