TV personality's brother arrested in Walnut Creek [Craig Rivera]

In another twist in the high-profile killing of Pamela Vitale, Walnut Creek police arrested the brother of sensational TV talk show host and reporter Geraldo Rivera early Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Craig Rivera, 51, the younger brother of the controversial television personality, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving at 1:26 a.m. in the 2000 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard just before the entrance to the Highway 24 on-ramp, police said.

Craig Rivera, a veteran correspondent for "Inside Edition," arrived in town Monday evening to help produce his brother's newest show, "Geraldo At Large"

A producer who contacted the Times this week said the new show was slated to debut Halloween and feature a story on Scott Dyleski, the 16-year-old charged in the high-profile killing of Lafayette resident Vitale. The episode, the producer said, was going to focus on Dyleski's alleged fascination with the satanic bible. The show is not to be confused with Geraldo's other show, "At Large with Geraldo," which airs weekends on the Fox News channel.

Craig Rivera confirmed with the Times on Tuesday that Mark Fuhrman, the Los Angeles police investigator who was accused by the O.J. Simpson defense team of planting evidence at Simpson's home, has been working with the new show and was also in town to help produce the feature on Vitale's killing.

A police source said Fuhrman was turned away Tuesday when he tried to gain access to the Hunsaker Canyon estate where Vitale lived.

Police would not confirm whether Fuhrman was in the car at the time of Craig Rivera's arrest, the latest strange footnote in the Vitale case.

The Associated Press reported last week that Fuhrman is being sought for his testimony in a kidnapping-murder case in Idaho, which stems from his reporting of the case on the Geraldo show.

For the segment, which aired in July, Fuhrman visited the crime scenes, including a Montana campsite where a convicted sex offender allegedly held his 8-year-old victim after allegedly killing the girl's mother and brother.

Craig Rivera did not return calls for comment on this story late Wednesday.

I was really hoping Geraldo was completely gone from FOX cable. He is the car alarm you keep waiting for someone to shut off.

Walnut Creek PD is not one to be messed with. They give out more traffic tickets annually than the entire city of San Francisco (60K vs. 750K pop.). They are a bit overzelous at times, but very professional for a suburban PD.

So a drunk driving arrest of Geraldo's kid brother turns into a promo piece for his new show. Surprise!

And couldn't the author have dropped 10 or 12 more names to keep it interesting?

This is BAD, REALLY BAD!!! This gives Whoraldo one more thing to keep his mug on the air in a constant do-loop of over the top pro-nouns, adjectives and adverbs. In fact, I see the perfect storm tri-fecta of tv lawyers hooked on pace paint forming again...Whoraldo, Greta, and Nancy.

Geraldo Rivera's brother arrested on DUI charge

By Cassandra Braun

CONTRA COSTA TIMES

In the latest of surreal high-profile crime connections, Walnut Creek police arrested the brother of sensational TV talk show host and reporter Geraldo Rivera early Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Craig Rivera, 51, the younger brother of the controversial television personality, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving at 1:26 a.m. in the 2000 block of Mt. Diablo Boulevard just before the entrance to the Highway 24 on-ramp, police said.

The show is not to be confused with Geraldo's other show, "At Large with Geraldo," which airs weekends on the Fox News channel.

Craig Rivera confirmed with the Times on Tuesday that Mark Fuhrman, the famed Los Angeles police investigator who was accused by the O.J. A police source said Furhman was turned away Tuesday when he tried to gain access to the Hunsaker Canyon estate where Vitale lived.

Police would not confirm if Fuhrman was in the car at the time of Craig Rivera's arrest, which marks the latest bizarre footnote in the Vitale case.

Sorry, not me. I don't feelings one way or the other about Shep. But Geraldo's voice causes my stomach muscles to spasm. Remember Mary Hart?

I would like people to not to have to go through the kinds of things that I had to go through. I would like our society to be much more open and educated and safe as far as drug use is considered. I prefer people weren't facing imprisonment for responsibly going out and altering their consciousness. I want people who want to stop doing drugs to have better access to programs ... It's really important that we discuss drug use rationally.

Craig Rivera, 51,

"Craig" is not very ethnic. I wonder why he bothered to change his last name like his brother Jerry.

I have strong feelings for Shep. His voice is the best I have heard on TV in a long time. Very deep.

Keep talkin', Shep baby.

Back around 1986, Geraldo Rivera did a TV special called Innocence Lost about runaways in New Orleans. During the course of the show, he interviewed a 16-year-old prostitute named Tammy, who said that she had been out on the streets since she was 13 and had run away from home, because she had been molested by her mother's boyfriend. When asked what the worst thing that had happened to her since being on the streets she said that a man whose car she got into took off with her down the interstate and she jumped out of the car and messed up her back. Geraldo came back to her 30 days later and said that for Tammy things had changed. Now, she was pregnant and wanted to go home. Geraldo wished her good luck and left her to fend for herself. We felt that he had actually done her a disservice, because now she was prey to any man who had a good line to pretend he wanted to help her. Our charity, Thursday's Child, phoned Geraldo's staff to try and locate her. Geraldo's brother, Craig Rivera lied and told us they had gotten her off the streets. Meanwhile, we had already taped the segment when it re-aired a few days later, taken a photo of a close-up of her and sent it off to New Orleans PD to a Lt. Daniel Lawless in the district attorney's office. He in turn, made copies and handed them out to the patrol units in New Orleans' French Quarter. Less than a week later, we received a phone call from one of the detectives. They had found Tammy and taken her down to the station and wanted to know what to do with her. We gave them the number for Florida's Children's Protective Services, had them contact them and we followed up with an addition report. The next day, Tammy was on her way home. This was the first time in three years she was going to be speaking to her mother and now the authorities in Florida would be dealing with the molestation and with the man who molested her, so that it would never happen again. But what if we had listed to Craig Rivera? What would have been the fate of that girl?
