Will GWB break from the east coast establishment he is surrounded by and nominate a maverick such as JRB,

I seriously doubt it. GWB IS "East coast establishment", in spite of his Texas accent.

Amen. I am so sick of these wimpy people afraid of their own shadow and refuse to fight. These are the same people who wanted Meirs shoved down our throats and are now still wimpering at the thought of a good ole brawl.

Screw em. Its time to fight and those not up to it should just STFU and let the big boys take over for once.

So damn what??? What the heck are you nervous nellies afraid of?

I can believe how scared some of you are for a fight over this. If there is a fight, we win hands down.

How do you describe GWB's entrance onto the USS Abraham Lincoln two years ago?

A celebration that the coalition had taken Baghdad and the Hussein regime was officially done.

IMHO, Bush couldn't have made a pimple on Reagan's butt. Reagan may have had his missed pitches, but when at bat, he hit the ball out of the park.

Is raising taxes TWICE "hitting the ball out of the park"? How about granting a blanket amnesty to illegal aliens?

Ronald Reagan was a great president, but he was not viewed as such while he was in office, even among many conservatives.

Never happen. Magazines like Jett and Ebony would come out against JRB, as would a host of rappers. Rogers would become as persona non grata to the black community as Clarence Thomas is.

If she got filibustered, a contingent of FReepers will blame Bush for picking her.

Who cares if they do? There are always a few Republicans that value calm, peace and order above principle. Most conservatives are not among them.

No one who has been filibustered will be nominated. Period.

Why are you so sure?  "We The People" apparently still has some meaning.

If the both the pundits and the public agree (like Roberts) it's something a few a-hat senators can't stop.

Sinky likes making predictions. My favorite was how Cardinal Ratzinger will never be made Pope.

"We the People" are not making the nomination. The President is, and the consensus seems to be that no one who was filibustered will be nominated.

"We the People" are not making the nomination.

By a Constitutional designated representative republic proxy they actually are if any given president expects to accomplish anything.  So Bush, not being stupid as he is not, will do something in the vein for which he was elected this time around.  I guess we'll know tomorrow.

Rosa Parks HAPPENED to die recently....the President's previous candidate for the Court HAPPENED to withdraw also.....nominating JRB would only be a coincidence.....except in the MINDS OF THE LOONY LEFT.

Theatrics or no, I liked his entrance. I think it's pretty cool to have a President who can fly a jet -- sort of like in Independence Day.

His parents are. He grew up in Texas. I'm not so certain he is all that accepted in the same circles as '41.

Janice Rogers Brown is a Californian. That's an enormous problem in itself; either Barbara Boxer or Diane Feinstein could use a Senatorial procedure known as a "hold." A "hold" allows an individual Senator to block any nomination indefinitely for ostensibly provincial (rather than political) reasons. Even if Bush manages to give them enough bribes to compel them to release their hold, that does not prevent the other from issuing a hold and demanding further bribes. Releasing a hold merely allows the Senate to proceed with arguing over whether to grant the nominee the dignity of a vote as to whether she deserves the dignity of a vote.

Janice Rogers Brown does not have a majority, and the Senate previously rejected her (even the dignity of a vote) for lower office. If Bush nominates Brown, that nomination is DEFEATED on ARRIVAL. There is no possible way that she could pass.

Bush must nominate a FEMALE widely perceived as highly qualified, not a crony, and more LIBERAL than Sandra Day O'Conner. We need a sheep IN WOLF'S CLOTHING. A conservative who has spent every day of her life posing as a liberal on the bench. Only such a person could endear both a majority of Senators and of posterity to her and by extension to Bush. This political climate makes Bush's task all but impossible, even without the depth of corruption in the Republican establishment and the surging Democratic majorities.

Ronald Reagan was a great president, but..

Yes, the inevitable "but" by the Bush water boys just before you whiz on the Gippers grave. In the end, the only thing you accomplish with such a tactic, is getting your own shoes wet as you whiz on the Gippers grave.

It really doesn't do your cause any good and makes yourselves, as well as who you are defending, seem small.

For God's sake. Nobody is "whizzing" on Reagan's grave by pointing out that he raised taxes twice.

I love and admire Reagan a great deal, but he had feet of clay, too.
