Limbaugh's Adopt a Soldier Misguided (Vanity)

Posted on 11/10/2005 11:40:07 AM PST by faithincowboys

I am a fan of Limbaugh's but I think the soldiers don't need a 24/7 subscription. I think Limbaugh would've been a real mensch if he had just endorsed a standard Adopt- A - Soldier program that provided them with the normal TLC-- food, shaving kits, etc. He didn't have to get his beak wet... I would've gladly participated in a standard program, the subscription thing is a missed opportunity that risks appearing self interested. I don't care if a bonehead from Rio Linda gave him the idea.

Yeah, and from what I could understand (I wasn't listening real closely), he won't be contributing a lot of money/resources to this. He just wants other people to contribute. It's just another way to sell subscriptions and make a profit.

If he really wanted to earn admiration, he'd just take that validated database he talks about, and just give them all a subscripton.

Rush is a great American and he's doing a wonderful thing. How better to help our soldiers than giving them access to the truth they won't get in the MSM?

I think what Rush is doing is a great idea. The Soldiers will enjoy it. As far as giving them things they need, Operation Shoebox is doing a fine job sending them those needed items.

I love my 24/7 subscription, and I could see where the soldiers would enjoy it, also. I don't think it's a bad idea, although certainly you wouldn't have to give them a Limbaugh 24/7 ... Maybe they'd like to be able to subscribe to the NY Times online ... LOL

Gives them all 3 hours of his show versus American Forces Radio which only gives 1 hour.

I like Rush, and listen to him every chance I get.

However, he is more and more into self promotion and less and less into conservative activism. I realize he is an entertainer; and he IS entertaining! But, as with our President, I wish he would do more with his talents and resources.

I sent Rush an email describing a problem the GIs may run into. I work everyday on an Air Force Base. I am a member of Rush 24/7 and the software on the base computer network will not allow most streaming audio. One of my squadron mates discovered a way I can listen to Rush via a CA station, but I can't get streaming audio from most radio stations. I am not sure the adopt-a-soldier idea will work because of streaming audio problem.

Obviously Rush doesn't think it is, and time will tell if others think the same way. We'll see it in both the requests that come in, and the people that send in the money.....

The military personnel have to sign up for it, so it is voluntary, unlike most adopt-a-soldier programs, which send stuff to as many military personnel as possible. Most of these organizations are doing great work, as are churches (like mine) who also send care packages. What Rush is doing is offering something many military personnel have asked for, allowing them a 24/7 subscription so they can hear ALL of his program. It isn't going to all of them, just those who want it and this is a way of letting folks like me help pay so a soldier, airman, sailor of Marine can enjoy what I get to enjoy every day.

I have NO problem with this whatsoever.

I was kinda conflicted about this until he announced that he is making his own contribution.

Remember, he is incorporated and just can't go giving stuff away willy-nilly.

I'll reserve judgement till I see what his 'super-secret' credit card says he pitched in.

I do think its good. No other way to get the show to the troops.

Actually, he is donating to "the cause", like he always does every time he asks people to give money. As I understand it, this whole thing was started because of Harkin trying to get him off of AFRTS, because it isn't "fair" that there's no lib voice.

You can always buy a second one and email the additional account number and password to a bunch of soldiers. Figure one subscription can service ten or more soldiers.

What a bunch of bs. Incorporated my rear. He is going to match our contributions. So he is giving the service peope a half priced subscription, which we pay for. believe me he will make $$ by selling lots of his subscriptions at half price. Even if he is donating some subscriptions (an unspecified number?) this is to make $$. I think he should just have said, if you listeners want to buy a serviceman a subscription, I'll only charge you half price. makes a great gift, etc. the part I didn't like is making it sound like he is opening a charitable service for the soldiers without plainly stating he is selling you something, albeit at a reduced rate.

I think you are wrong. As a soldier I would have appreciated someone allowing me be have access 24/7 so that I could log in at times when I was off duty. Especially since the anti-American democrats are so hot in trying to get Rush banned from Armed Forces Radio and so left-wing fascist anti-American democrat put on in his place.

I support the effort and will donate.

Subchapter S corporations are totally controlled by one person or very few people. They are essentially a pass through for income which offer the legal protection of a corporation. The owner does not have a corporation to answer to, he is teh corporation. From everything I know about Rush he is essentially Rush Limbaugh Inc. and his businesses are set up for Rush. We are not talking about the GM board of directors here.

Your thinking is very misguided. If the caller had called Gillette, you could expect them to have a shaving program or Kraft could be expected to have a food program. However, Rush has a radio program that is on the Internet 24/7 by subscription.

I am sure not all service members will have access to the program on the Internet, but I am sure there are more than one thinks that does have Internet access.

I spent two tours in Nam(one in the Infantry, 67-68) and I had all the shaving cream and toothpaste I wanted. Of course, soldiers are always hungry, so extra food is always good. However, the entertainment value, the ability to be one iota closer to what is going on at home, has a tremendous value for morale and general conditions..

Get over it. There are plenty of organizations that send the amenities you mentioned, call one.

Excuse me but it isn't a zero-sum game; there is no reason YOU (or I) can't do both. I happen to think that anything we can do to break the MSM lock on information received by the troops is a morale boost and worthy of support. That the capitalist Limbaugh benefits ... so what? Isn't that part of what they are fighting for? What, he is rich so he should do everything for free? What the hell point of view is that?
