AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 1756) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | November 11, 2005 | All of Us

Posted on 11/11/2005 4:57:52 AM PST by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!

Good morning!!

Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

Today is Veterans Day, a National holiday to recognize those who serve, and those who have served, this Nation's highest calling, to protect our freedom and our people from the others in the world that would do us harm.

The Federal Government is closed, the Post Office doesn't deliver, state government workers have the day off.

But Fairfax county schools in Virginia apparently think veterans are no big deal--schools are not only open, the holiday isn't even acknowledged.

Sad.For AMERICA - The Right Way,I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Happy Veterans Day.

Fairfax Schools are open? That's disgraceful.

We saw quite a few soldiers yesterday at the museum; what nice young men they were to talk with.

Schools are open in central Indiana as well. In fact, we have not had this as a school holiday for many years. I think we gave up Veterans Day in order to get MLK Day off, if I remember correctly. I bet you can guess my comment on that.

Good morning to everyone! A big thank you to all our Veterans for saving our country and allowing us to enjoy this life. Today my visit to my Father will be a bit more special. Thanks to all. He's hanging in there. Below is a picture I just scanned - my Dad had made a trip to the WWII Memorial in D.C. a year ago this past September. He stands under the Pacific Theatre memorial. I wish I could have been there with him - I know it was an emotional visit for him.

I'm really disappointed to hear that it is not isolated to have schools open on Veterans Day. Without our Veterans, we wouldn't be celebrating much of anything, imo.

This is locally decided. My children's school system (formerly Dan Burton's district) held out on the MLK thing for quite a while. When the teachers started griping about not getting it off, they gave them the day off but called it a winter break.

They had already started attendance during Veteran's Day because most systems were open, having traded for the MLK day thing.

It is very sad. On the other hand, mamny of the schools around here do have programs in which veterans come to speak and are honored. That is a good thing, as if the kids just had the day off I am not sure they would get any message from it.

After all, on MLK Day most kids do not spend the day reading the "I Have a Dream" speech. They go to the mall or watch movies.

In Iowa, we gave up "President's Day" (Washington & Lincoln) for MLK.

Goofy. Just Goofy.

That's true and as long as the schools make an attempt to have the kids understand the sacrifice made by veterans by having them give speeches, it's not a horrible trade off.
