Katie Holmes is quitting acting, to become a full time wife to Tom Cruise. The 'Batman Begins' beauty is one of Hollywoods most promising up and coming young stars.
But at age 26 she wants to ditch her blossoming film career and devote herself to bringing up the baby they are expecting next year.
A pal tells me 'Katie has decided to give up acting altogether. She's been telling friends that she and Tom have decided it is best that she stays at home and brings up their new baby.'
'Her decision is raising a lot of eyebrows in Hollywood. She is at the perfect age for so many screen roles and has completely closed the door on a promising career.'
Kate made her name with her brilliant role in the hit teenage series 'Dawson's Creek.' And made an impressive transition to the big screen in the recent summer blockbuster 'Batman Begins.'
Most girls would give their eye teeth to be the next Julia Roberts. But it looks like the opportunity will fall to another Hollywood starlet.
It also strikes me that Tom, a devoted follower of Scientology, is living in a time warp. If relationships are all about give and take, he hasn't given up much for her so far.

Why? She appears to be giving up her career for all of them, including herself and the soon-to-be baby. That sounds pretty honorable to me, and I wish them all the luck in the world.

She was starstruck from an old teenage puppy-love crush and then brainwashed by a dangerous cult. There's no "choosing" involved with anything she does these days, at least on her part.

Exactly. I know nothing about Katie Holmes, but I know moves like this blow the minds of feminists. They can't grasp that raising a child is pretty much the most important thing a woman can do.
And to give up a "career" to raise a child, much less giving up fame and stardom, does not register in their minds.
They should have thought of that BEFORE they hit the bedsheets. "First comes love, then comes MARRIAGE, THEN comes the baby in the baby carriage." So does this mean they intend to get married before the baby is born?

Will someone who pays more attention to these sorts of things please tell me if there has been a marriage. There has been a much touted "engagement" ... and now, apparently, a pregnancy by some means ... but when was there a marriage? In the absence of a marriage, can we amend that to read: "a full time [fill in the blank] of Tom Cruise ... ?

I would suspect she's choosing to be a stay at home mom because her mom made the same decision when Katie and her siblings were little. Just because a woman gives up a lucrative job to stay home and raise her kids doesn't mean she's brainwashed. Anyone can make money. Not anyone can love and raise your children the way you can.
I can see taking time off but to give it up entirely sounds like a little stepford wife thingy going on.

I think she's prettier than Julia Roberts. Roberts just had the advantage of being in a movie called Pretty Woman, even though the body in the famous poster for the movie wasn't actually hers.
