VIRGIN MARY DEFILED ON “SOUTH PARK”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue remarked today about last night’s episode of “South Park” (it will run again for the next three nights):

 

“A ‘South Park’ character gets a DWI and is ordered to attend AA meetings.  Told about the 12-step program, he concludes that he needs a miracle to cure him.  The plot then focuses on a statue of the Virgin Mary who is ‘bleeding out her ass.’  The Vatican dispatches a cardinal to investigate and he is sprayed with blood when he walks behind the statue.  He then declares this to be a miracle, which draws even more people.  The alcoholic, now in a wheelchair, is also sprayed with blood: he then claims he is cured and jumps out of his seat.

 

“Pope Benedict XVI goes to investigate.  He, too, is sprayed with blood when he walks behind the statue.  A reporter says, ‘The pope investigated further and determined that the statue was not bleeding out its ass, but its vagina.’  To which the pope replies: ‘A chick bleeding out her vagina is no miracle.  Chicks bleed out their vaginas all the time.’

 

“Comedy Central is a subsidiary of MTV, which is owned by Viacom.  On the board of directors of Viacom is a practicing Catholic and a distinguished public servant, Joseph A. Califano; he served under Presidents Johnson and Carter.  We are writing to him today requesting that he intervene in this matter.  We want a) an apology to Roman Catholics and b) a pledge that this episode be permanently retired and not be made available on DVD.  In the event Viacom does not cooperate, we are asking Mr. Califano to issue his own statement of condemnation.  We are asking our members to contact him as well.  Remember, they chose to insult Our Blessed Mother on the eve of the Immaculate Conception, and the holy day itself.

It's a matter of filial piety and honor

The Servant of God, Father Joseph Kentenich, Founder of the Schoenstatt Apostolic Movement--or was it his disciple, Joseph Engling?--speaking in prayer to our Blessed Mother, once said:

"If they take away my honor, then I'll tend to yours."

I made that promise my own almost 20 years ago. I haven't regretted it for one second, although most times I haven't been diligent enough to follow through with it.

That cowardice came to an end today.

The excuse of "equal opportunity humor" that many South Park apologists put forward does not excuse the offense; it holds no water. Laughing at this "humor" only shows the depth of coarseness into which our social discourse has fallen into.

I protest it, condemn it, and decry it.

And as the Lord is forgiving, because He has forgiven my many sins, may those who offend His Mother turn to Him for forgiveness and healing, and a better sense of humor.

YA, I agree. It didn't really suprise me. But I found it a little beyond my taste. I'm a Christian, but not Catholic so I do find it funny when people claim that they see Mary in trees and things, and claim it has healing powers.

As bad as it makes me feel, I did LMAO at what the Pope said, and again when I read it in the article above.....

You're not a sicko. I haven't missed an episode in years and don't consider myself that way. Its just sometimes envelope pushers go too far.
The Pope lines were funny.
Sometimes Issac Hayes' lines go too far.

Amen. I personally....since Jesus died for my sins, not Mary...would care more about when Jesus is attacked. But, I am a wacky Protestant I guess.

But, at the same time, South Park is funny. I simply can't get worked up over a CARTOON. There are real instances of blasphemy like feces-painted Christ's in NYC art museums. I simply am not going to let little fat Cartman get me worked up. I just am not.

I wish some Catholics (since some on another thread said they were Catholic and were't offended) could just lighten up a little bit.
